Spurs’ Jose Mourinho should ignore fans’ Eric Dier criticism

It’s fair to say Eric Dier has been on the fringes of the first-team at Tottenham this season.

The England international has seen his game-time rather limited, making just 22 appearances across all competitions. The last few weeks in particular have perfectly captured what has been a stuttering campaign, either not being named in the squad at all, featuring on the bench, or just coming on as a substitute.

But against Wolves on Sunday afternoon, Jose Mourinho gave him the perfect opportunity to start and complete the full 90 minutes. And following the game, fans of the north London side took to Twitter to criticise his performance.

Whilst stats can certainly be misleading, Dier actually enjoyed a pretty impressive game as a centre-back at the weekend.

As per Sofascore, he won an impressive ten of his 13 total duels, including winning all six that were contested on the ground. And he was a defensive monster in other areas too, making a team-high six tackles, and making four clearances too (only behind Japhet Tanganga who had five).

Dier kept things ticking from the back, and his experience as a midfielder helped no doubt with his passing accuracy being at 90%. And speaking after the match, Mourinho himself lauded the powerhouse for his performance, and explained the reasoning behind why he opted to use him in central defence.

“I think Eric played very well. The thinking was simple, the thinking was Davinson and Tanganga are the two fastest central defenders that we have. Eric is the one who by nature is a midfield player so playing in the middle between those centre backs is the one who is normally more comfortable to step up, he’s more comfortable with reading the game and passing.”

Whilst the score-line may not have reflected it, Dier himself arguably produced a fine personal performance – his 6.8 match rating as per Sofascore was comfortably better than his partners in crime, Davinson Sanchez and Tanganga.

So even despite Spurs fans criticising him, Mourinho would do well to ignore their anger and instead look at things objectively. Another start in the Premier League beckons.

Meanwhile, this Tottenham ace endured a nightmare display against Wolves.

West Brom fans want Diangana back

West Brom have been a little bit flat recently.

The Baggies have now failed to win each of their last three games after losing to both Wigan and Newcastle before drawing with Swansea.

The side really looks like it needs a catalyst to spark a resurgence, and they’re very lucky to have an incredibly talented player still waiting to return.

Indeed, Grady Diangana has been sidelined for a number of weeks at this point, but he should be back in action before the end of the season.

Fans who have watched the Baggies over the past few games believe that they’re missing the winger’s attacking prowess.

Others stated that they were excited for him to come back, and you can understand why.

The West Ham loanee has contributed to 10 goals in 21 appearances this term for the Midlands club, and after failing to score in each of their last two league games they could probably do with him being available for selection.

Another section of supporters believe that he has to be straight back into the starting XI once his injury problems clear up.

In other news, West Brom’s summer priority has become clear.

Twitter post shows what Bruno Fernandes has been up to

The Premier League may be suspended for the time being, but players from the league will still be putting in practise to keep the rust from forming before they return to action. That is the case for Manchester United pair Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, with the latter posting a video of them having a kick about on his Twitter page.Fernandes has been making waves since moving to Old Trafford, recording three goals and four assists in eight starts and one substitute appearance across the Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup.

Considering that he only arrived at the end of January, it will likely be heartwarming to see that he has his fellow Portuguese national for company during the break in play.

Seeing the 25-year-old imitating Cristiano Ronaldo’s celebration, before having to go and get the ball back from in the tree, will also have likely brought plenty of joy to some United fans who saw the video.

Garry Monk’s career is surely hanging by a thread

Garry Monk is under some serious pressure at Sheffield Wednesday at the moment.

The former Swansea manager has overseen just two league wins in the Owls’ last 14 games, and understandably some fans have been calling for his head.

Fortunately for Monk, Dejphon Chansiri still seems to have some faith in him, recently stating that he’s got his full backing, but if this run goes on you can’t imagine that will last for too long.

Fans are calling for him to be sacked for a reason, and as much as we hate to say it, we aren’t blind to the fact that there’s a case to be made for the manager to go.

Two wins in 14 for a team that sat third in the division after 23 games is simply horrendous, and unfortunately, the blame has to fall at Monk’s feet.

If he does end up getting the chop and losing his job, then surely that’s the end for him in terms of getting top-end Championship jobs?

An end to his time at Wednesday would represent the third time in a row he has been sacked in the Championship after being unceremoniously dumped by both Middlesbrough and Birmingham City previously.

After back to back sackings, he was lucky to even be handed the Wednesday job after the good work Steve Bruce did, losing just three times in 18 outings, but if he is let go by the Owls, it’s hard to see him walking into another job of the same ilk.

There’s only so long you can ride on the coattails of almost getting Leeds into the playoffs a few years ago, and since then he’s not shown anything to suggest he’s a manager capable of handling a club that want to be challenging for promotion.

He flopped at Middlesbrough despite the Teesside club spending over £50m after their relegation, losing nine of his 26 games in charge, and although he was working under tough circumstances at Birmingham with their FFP troubles, he didn’t pull up any trees at St Andrew’s either.

Monk is surely now in the last chance saloon when it comes to getting jobs of this ilk, and if he doesn’t turn things around at Wednesday he may struggle to bounce back.

In other news, Sheffield Wednesday’s Jordan Rhodes replacement could be staring them in the face.

Adrian Durham launches scathing attack on Kane & Mourinho

Speaking on talkSPORT on Wednesday night, pundit Adrian Durham launched a scathing attack on Tottenham Hotspur trio Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris and Jose Mourinho.

What did he say?

Well, Durham was speaking after Spurs chairman Daniel Levy released a statement on Tuesday saying that all the 550 non-playing staff at the club would be placed on the Government’s furlough scheme.

The broadcaster took particular aim at the aforementioned trio, who appear to be continuing on their normal salaries for now.

He told talkSPORT: “Why has no Spurs player, not the captain, or the talisman, or the very highly-paid manager followed their heart or their conscious and said anything?

“It’s been 24 hours since Daniel Levy’s statement, it’s been three weeks since that last game, so what are they waiting for?

“Are none of them as individuals capable of showing compassion until they get an email from the PFA or a statement is written for them by their agent?

“We know money has messed up football, but it seems to have robbed human beings of compassion.

“What a horrible smell this is from certain Premier League players and other personnel.”

Fair criticism?

It probably is, yes.

When you see all of their staff at your football club have to take a pay cut because of the current situation in the United Kingdom, you would have thought there would have been at least some sort of reaction from the captain Lloris, a key figure among the fan-base in Kane, or the manager Mourinho.

Whether it was a simple message or one saying that they would be giving up a portion of their wages too, it would have been good to hear something.

The silence is deafening right now and it doesn’t look good on Levy, the manager or the players, and surely some sort of statement will have to arrive soon.

It remains to be seen who delivers it, but Durham is right to call this a “horrible smell”.

Something needs to be done, and quickly.

Rangers youth director slams Charlie Nicholas’ comments on Dave King

Loads of Rangers fans have fumed at pundits like Charlie Nicholas and Chris Sutton for their comments on the financial situation at Ibrox, and now Gers youth director Colin Stewart has joined in too.

Sutton enraged Light Blues fans earlier this week when he claimed Dave King must have left behind a pit of money that nobody knew about in order for Rangers to survive the current crisis without making cuts.

Nicholas has also added to the noise in recent times, saying King’s departure from the club was “weird”, and after @4ladshadadream slammed the anti-Rangers media “narrative” from the likes of Sutton and Nicholas, Stewart chimed in with his thoughts on the latter.

Stewart is the director of operations at the Gers Youth Acaedmy, and fans will surely love his views on the comments from Nicholas.

Indeed, King had announced his intention to leave the club way back in November, so there was nothing “weird” about the timing of his exit whatsoever.

Whether or not Rangers will follow Sutton’s suggestions and cut costs at the club in the coming weeks remains to be seen, but Nicholas’ words on King were way off the mark.

Some Rangers fans have criticised a “shambolic” decision from the club…

Everton winger Bernard addresses AS Roma exit rumour

Everton winger Bernard has issued a strong response via his official Instagram account after Italian media outlet LaRoma24, via Sport Witness, reported that he had been offered to the AS Roma.

The report says that the 27-year-old is just one of a number of Brazilian players they are targeting this summer, as they look to boost their frontline ahead of the 2020/21 campaign – whenever that may be.

After the EvertonNewsFeed account posted the story on Instagram, the South American attacker was quick to shoot the rumours down, simply responding: “This is lie”.

It has certainly been an interesting campaign for Bernard under Marco Silva, Duncan Ferguson and now Carlo Ancelotti, scoring three goals and providing a further two assists in 22 appearances in all competitions.

In the 11 Premier League matches the Italian has been at the helm for, the winger has started six of them.

However, he has been taken off at half-time in two of those, and was an unused substitute for two more, so he certainly doesn’t appear to have won Ancelotti over just yet.

Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react to recent Jose Semedo interview

In a recent interview with Dom Howson, former Sheffield Wednesday player Jose Semedo has opened up about his departure from the club three years ago.

In 2017, the Portuguese defender was released after putting in seven years of service to the Yorkshire club (via Sky Sports). Now, Semedo has revealed the details behind his dismissal from the side, stating the way he was let go was ‘unfair’.

The 35-year-old has given his side of the story, claiming he was waiting for a phone call to discuss his future with Wednesday, but that call never came.

“All I wanted to do was play for Sheffield Wednesday,” Semedo told Yorkshire Live. “I couldn’t see myself with another club but no one called me about renewing my contract. I was very disappointed. It was the hardest time in my career.”

Some fans have responded to his comments on the situation and many are wishing the club hadn’t let Semedo leave. One Wednesdayite has said it’s ‘disgusting’ that he wasn’t given a proper send off and has slammed the board saying ‘shows where we are as a club now’.

Norwich fans react to the latest injury update on Mario Vrancic

[ad_pod ]

Norwich fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was revealed by the club’s Twitter account that Mario Vrancic is set to miss the next three weeks, having suffering ankle ligament damage in the East Anglian derby win over Ipswich.

The Bosnian international will not need surgery to resolve the issue that he sustained after landing awkwardly, which is a big bonus for Canaries boss Daniel Farke, but he will be missing for a short period as the league leaders look to maintain their position at the top.

Fit-again Alex Tettey replaced the 29-year-old against Ipswich and looks set to do so against Preston on Wednesday as well, whilst Moritz Leitner still isn’t quite ready.

Be sure to check out the incredible story of the man who rose from a Tanzanian refugee camp to become one of Australia’s biggest football stars in the video below…

Vrancic has seven goals and five assists in 24 Championship appearances so far this season and will be a big miss over the next few weeks for the Norfolk-based side, and fans have taken to Twitter to express their disappointment…
