Leeds United have recalled goalkeeper Will Huffer from a loan spell at Barnet after an injury to Kamil Miazek, the Yorkshire Evening Post report.

Huffer played three times for the National League side during his spell, in draws with Solihull Moors, Sutton United and in an FA Cup stalemate with Brentford.

What’s the word?

Huffer only joined Barnet on January 25th but is already back at Elland Road.

The 20-year-old made his senior debut for Leeds earlier this season, playing 90 minutes and keeping a clean sheet in the 2-0 Championship win over Bristol City.

Huffer is third in the club’s pecking order of goalkeepers, behind January signing Kiko Casilla and Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

However, an injury sustained by Miazek means that he is needed to play for the club’s Under-23 side.

As well as making his senior debut, Huffer has played for England at youth levels, winning nine caps for the Under-17s and one for the Under-18s.

Development accelerated

Huffer’s development is only going to be helped by training with the likes of Casilla.

He will play for the Under-23s regularly and is also on standby to move into the first-team for Marcelo Bielsa.

The youngster has already made his Championship bow and is clearly seen as a trustworthy deputy by his manager.

The signing of Casilla may well have pushed him down the queue but he has won three Champions League trophies, as well as La Liga and two UEFA Super Cups.

Huffer can only get better and merely working alongside the Spaniard could have a transformative effect on his growth.

Manuel Pellegrini’s decision to substitute Pablo Zabaleta for Ryan Fredericks at half-time on Friday evening could finally be the sign that the manager has more faith in Fredericks than the 34-year-old.

Zabaleta was poor in closing down Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon last time out at the London Stadium and the right-back was largely at fault for the Whites opening the scoring as early as the third minute.

The Hammers recovered well to win the match 3-1 in the end but Sessegnon was quite easily able to put a low pass behind Zabaleta, which Ryan Babel calmly pounced on and put away to give Fulham an early lead.

Fredericks, who started West Ham’s previous two league games against Liverpool and Crystal Palace looked much more composed and organised at the back in the second-half, making it difficult for the likes of Sessegnon to find space on the wing.

The 26-year-old showed in the matches against the Reds and the Eagles that he is well and truly capable of handling the pressures of the Premier League and looked very comfortable at right-back.

The victory over Fulham was West Ham’s first in five league matches and it certainly boosted their chances of making a strong finish to the league.

Pellegrini should continue with Fredericks as a regular starter for the remainder of the season and use Zabaleta as a substitute when needed.

The former Manchester City man’s experience can undoubtedly not be questioned but given Frederick’s good showings of late, he might be of higher value when used from the bench in critical times.

Fredericks showed against Crystal Palace that he is a modern day right-back, who is capable of attacking down the flank with pace, while making quick recoveries in defence when needed.

Fredericks, who is valued at £3.6 million (by Transfermarkt), will definitely add to the East London club’s lethal attacking threat.

Liverpool are interested in signing Celta Vigo hitman Maxi Gomez to provide depth in attack, after former Reds striker Luis Suarez sang his fellow countryman’s praises to boss Jurgen Klopp, as reported by The Sun.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Premier League title hopefuls are particularly light in attack compared to their league rivals, Manchester City.

Where Pep Guardiola has the likes of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus to choose from, Klopp is perhaps over-reliant on Roberto Firmino with Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge less fancied up top – the pair have made a combined four league starts this season.

Gomez hit 17 goals in what was his first La Liga campaign last year, and has continued his form with nine goals and five assists so far this term as Celta Vigo battle to avoid relegation.

The ruthlessness that Liverpool are missing

Standing at 6′ 1″, 22-year-old Gomez is a real powerhouse thanks to his height and stocky physique, although he is not just a towering lump as he possesses great technical skills.

Suarez has given a glowing recommendation of his fellow Uruguayan for a reason, and with Chelsea and West Ham also lurking, the Reds should try hard to get this deal done.

Firmino has been less of an out-and-out striker this season and more of a No.10, so the Merseysiders lack a real frontman to aim for at times.

Football is a squad game, and it doesn’t take a genius to see that Liverpool lack City’s depth.

Klopp has been fairly lucky with injuries so far this season, hence his side’s lofty position in the table, but if one of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane or Firmino are hit with a serious problem, their ambitions will be dealt a severe blow with no one in reserve capable of matching their impact on the pitch.

For the reported price tag of £35m too, a move for Gomez should be a no-brainer.

وتابع: “معلول قد يلعب المباراة الأولى أو الثانية مع المنتخب التونسي لعدد من الوقت، وسيكون هناك تنسيق معهم، ولديهم أجندة دولية قريبًا”.

وعن مباراة الوداد المغربي في نصف نهائي دوري أبطال افريقيا، قال: “مباراة الوداد اقتربت جدًا ولا نريد أن نفقد عناصر مؤثرة في المباريات بعد حصولنا على لقب الدوري”.

وعن إمكانية تأجيل مواجهة بيراميدز قبل لقاء الوداد: “الجدول تم وضعه منذ فترة، ولا نريد أن نعبث بجدول الدوري، لقاء بيراميدز مهم، ونريد أن نحققق الفوز فيه كحسابات معنوية، ولكن الفيصل والأهم هو لقاء الوداد، وسنحاول إراحة عناصر كثيرة خلال الفترة المقبلة”.

The prospect of playing Premier League football next season is becoming a more and more realistic possibility every single week for Leeds United at the moment.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are currently in the thick of the Championship title race, and have been in the mix for promotion all season. On top of that, the Whites have also been regularly producing scintillating football throughout the campaign.

The Argentine coach deserves plenty of credit for the dramatic changes and improvements he’s instigated at Elland Road. Now, inevitably, speculation is turning to how his side might cope in the top flight. Bielsa himself has given his verdict on this.

What he said

In his press conference on Monday, as quoted by Leeds Live, the manager was asked if his current squad are capable of making the step up to the Premier League.

Bielsa said: “I haven’t analysed the Premier League so I’m not ready to make this kind of comparison now. But I can tell you any player that plays for Leeds now, they could play without any problems in the two European teams that I trained for some time, Marseille and Bilbao. I can make this comparison because I know both teams.”

A huge vote of confidence

This is a huge compliment for Bielsa to pay his squad. Athletic Bilbao and Marseille were in La Liga and Ligue 1, respectively, when he was in charge. When he was at the helm of the French club, Bielsa had the likes of Benjamin Mendy, Dimitri Payet, and Michy Batshuayi at his disposal.

These comments from the head coach ought to give the Leeds squad a massive confidence boost, which fans will hope can give them a lift heading into the all important Championship run in.

The Unai Emery era is fully underway at Arsenal, and with Champions League qualification and Europa League glory still on the line, it is vital for the Gunners to end the season strongly.

The fans, players and board members are expecting Emery to get the Gunners back into the promised land that comes with Champions League football, and qualification into Europe’s elite competition could have massive ramifications for Arsenal’s summer spending.

And there are some glaring holes in the Arsenal team that Emery needs to be prepared to fill in the off-season.

The Gunners have been linked to Villarreal midfielder Pablo Fornals by the Express as Emery prepares for an Arsenal midfield without Aaron Ramsey, who is set to move to Juventus, and Fornals could be a welcome addition in north London.

The Villarreal midfielder has been one of the few shining lights for the Yellow Submarine this season as the club, which is now home to Santi Cazorla, who sit just one place above the relegation zone in 17th.

Interchangeable in the midfield attacking three, Fornals could be the ideal replacement for Ramsey. The versatile midfielder is a direct force in the Villarreal team, able to get the ball forward and serve as a good link between the attack and midfield. Sound familiar? His playstyle is eerily reminiscent of Aaron Ramsey, and that is high praise for the 23-year-old.

Significantly, in today’s market Fornals could be a steal. With a reported release clause of around (£17.8 million), the Spaniard should be within the price range of what the Gunners can afford this season, especially if Emery can get Champions League football.

Fornals is a ready-built replacement for Ramsey that the Gunners should be focusing their efforts on acquiring this summer. Although areas of the first-team need major improvements, mainly in the defence, replacing Rambo should be equally as important.

And when looking for a replacement for Ramsey, none come so close to what Fornals can offer. The Spaniard is young at 23 with room to grow at a top Premier League side, and working under a coach as hands-on as Emery will develop his game massively.

Arsenal have missed out on near-perfect players for the squad multiple times in the past, and it is vital Emery doesn’t miss out on replacing one of the clubs most important players with someone who can fill his shoes perfectly.
