Kevin Roberts, Cricket Australia’s chief executive, admitted to the possibility of the Gabba hosting Afghanistan for the first Test of summer before the India matches are played elsewhere.”If the Test summer proper did start that way, it’s a possibility, but there’s a lot to work through,” Roberts told SEN Radio. “We don’t have any preconceived ideas on that, we’re in the middle of executing the season, making sure we can deliver a really good experience to fans at the ground and through our broadcasters, and then we’ll get on to planning next season. Between October 11 and 13, the Indian Cricketers’ Association (ICA) will conduct its first election. The ICA became a reality in July this year after the BCCI recognised the body on the condition that it would only be for retired cricketers – men and women – and that it would be a non-profit organisation looking after the welfare of former players.On Wednesday, the ICA released a final list of eligible members that can vote for the various positions. Liverpool fell to defeat in the capital last Sunday, comprehensively beaten at the Emirates Stadium against title rivals Arsenal, and while Jurgen Klopp still has a hold on top spot in the Premier League, Manchester City will return to first-place should they win their game in hand.

On Saturday, Liverpool return to Anfield and will host Burnley in a match that will be viewed as a must-win, the Clarets languishing in 19th place and seven points adrift from the dotted line.

Of course, Reds supporters know only too well the damage Burnley can inflict on Merseyside, winning 1-0 in 2021 to end the Reds' 68-match unbeaten run on home turf in the top flight.

Klopp will be confident that his team will prevail tomorrow, though he could make four alterations from the side that was dismantled against the Gunners.

Alisson endured a nightmare performance against Arsenal, leagues away from his usual imperious standard and at fault for two of the opposition's goals.

Still, the Brazilian is one of the best – if not the best – goalkeepers in the world, with the second-best save percentage in the Premier League this season at 75%.

Another one to have been far from their best last time out, Trent Alexander-Arnold was perhaps rushed in his return from a knee injury after Conor Bradley took personal leave.

Jarell Quansah, aged 21, will seamlessly slot into the line-up, having emerged as one of the club's standout prospects this season.

Commanding and composed, the 6 foot 5 titan looks right at home under Klopp's wing.

4 CB – Virgil van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk did not enjoy his finest hour last time out but this should not detract from the phenomenal performances he has put in since donning the captain's armband last summer.

As per Sofascore, the 32-year-old has completed 90% of his passes across 21 Premier League fixtures this term, averaging 1.3 tackles, 5.0 ball recoveries and 4.3 clearances per game, also succeeding with 77% of his duels.

5 LB – Andy Robertson

Andy Robertson picked up a shoulder injury on international duty with Scotland back in October and while he returned to fitness last month, he has been kept out of the starting fold by the brilliant Joe Gomez.

The forthcoming contest presents the perfect opportunity to reintegrate the ace and he should be named among the starters, hoping to pick up his fine form in the early days of the 2023/24 campaign.

6 DM – Alexis Mac Allister

Alexis Mac Allister signed for Liverpool from Brighton & Hove Albion for £35m last July as Klopp made sweeping changes to his midfield, and he has come into his own as the deep-lying string-puller.

Technically immense and boasting a salivating range of passing, Mac Allister also averages 2.9 tackles per game in the Premier League this season.

7 CM – Harvey Elliott

With only three league starts to his name this term, Harvey Elliott will be eager to take his chance to impress in the place of Dominik Szoboszlai, who is sidelined with a recurrence of a hamstring injury.

The dynamic midfielder is among the most creative and graceful in English football and will be crucial in weaving the thirds together as the hosts look to go on a rampage.

8 CM – Curtis Jones

Alexander-Arnold remains Liverpool's homegrown golden boy while the emergences of Quansah and Bradley have got fans chattering with fervour, but Curtis Jones, aged 22, has been excellent this year and might just be Anfield's unsung hero.

Jones has scored five goals and supplied three assists this year but it is his press-resistance and technical quality that makes him so valuable in the engine room, industriously metronomic, keeping Liverpool purring with a kind of clockwork cohesion.

9 RW – Diogo Jota

The laterality of Diogo Jota is something to behold. Simply, he doesn't seem to have a positional preference. Right, left, central – who cares? Certainly not him.

The man lives for goals, and ranking among the top 1% of attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for goals scored per 90, as per FBref, Jota will be the talisman needed as Mohamed Salah recuperates from a muscular injury.

Cody Gakpo will have to relinquish his position on the right but the "special" forward – as he has been called by assistant coach Pep Lijnders – has been out of sorts recently and Jota is the man for the job.

10 LW – Luis Diaz

Luis Diaz had struggled to click into gear for much of the season before the turn of the year fuelled him with a new wave of energy and optimism.

The 27-year-old has three goals and two assists since the start of January and will stretch Burnley like a piece of taffy, his fleet-footed style sure to wreak torment as Liverpool strive to return to winning ways.

Tottenham Hotspur have invested a hefty amount of money since the arrival of boss Ange Postecoglou from Celtic back in June last year.

Owner Daniel Levy has invested around £232m on players over the last eight months, with the signings of players such as Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest and James Maddison from relegated Leicester City.

The spending continued into the January transfer window, with the signing of centre-back Radu Dragusin from Genoa for a fee in the region of £25m – with the Romanian rejecting a move to Bayern Munich for a move to north London.

Despite the big investment in recent times, Spurs could be about to splash more cash in the summer as Postecoglou looks to continue his rebuild of the Tottenham first-team squad.

Spurs eyeing ambitious summer swoop

Earlier this week, reports from Spain suggested that Postecoglou's side had submitted a sensational bid in the region of £51m for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

The 26-year-old joined the Spanish side for £73m from Ajax in July 2019, with the midfielder establishing himself as one of the best talents in recent years.

Despite Spurs' recent approach for the Dutchman, it appears it may take a higher fee to tempt Barça into any deal for the midfielder.

Goal reported this week that despite Spurs' bid for De Jong, it may take an offer of up to £85m before Xavi's side even negotiate a deal with any club interested in signing one of their prized assets.

However, with De Jong only having two years on his contract, the club may want to sell the former Ajax man before his price decreases. Given Barça's recent financial struggles, they may be forced to sell some of their key players whether they want to stay in Spain or not.

How De Jong compares to Christian Eriksen

There aren't many players that have had an impact like Christian Eriksen did during his seven-year stint at Tottenham, with the Danish midfielder scoring 69 times in 305 appearances in north London.

One of his best seasons for the club was during the 2017/18 Premier League campaign, where the former Ajax man achieved double figures for his goals and assists – with his set pieces playing a real part in his success.

Compare that to De Jong's tally so far this campaign, with the Dutchman scoring once and yet to register a single assist in La Liga. This isn't a surprise given the Barça man is often utilised as a box-to-box midfielder in comparison to Eriksen, who was more of a number 10 behind Harry Kane.

Given the role of De Jong, he sees a lot more of the ball and is more accurate with his passes than Eriksen was during the 2017/18 campaign. Although Eriksen achieved an exceptional number of assists, he trails the current Barça midfielder when comparing their respective pass completion rates.

The Dane averaged a 77% pass completion rate during his wonderful season. However, Barça's "incredible" midfielder – as dubbed by his boss Xavi – has averaged 91% blowing the former fan-favourite out of the water – ranking him within the top 3% of midfielders in Europe this year.

With the Dutch international operating slightly deeper, it allows for him to progress the play – a potential perfect fit to play behind Spurs' magician Maddison. De Jong's averaged 3.3 progressive carries this campaign, one more per game than Eriksen, with the Barça man once again ranking within the top 3% in Europe's top five leagues.

That said, in the last few years the Dane has started playing in a deeper role, similar to De Jong, with plenty of similarities on offer last term when Eriksen moved to Manchester United. They both register a similar number of key passes and shot-creating actions from central areas while their preference to stay back is illuminated by their touches in the offensive third of the play.

With a whole host of first-team assets having sparkled under the new regime, we at Football Fancast have deemed it wise to dish player ratings (out of 10) to the current Spurs crop – albeit including only those who have started at least three league games.

Goalkeeper

Guglielmo Vicario

8 – As Jamie Carragher said, the former Empoli man has been an undoubted "revelation" this season, having prevented 4.28 goals – the best record in the division. An unknown quantity when he arrived from his native Italy, fans and pundits alike are now certainly aware of Guglielmo Vicario.

Full-backs

Pedro Porro

8 – Despite possible fears that he would not suit playing in a back four, as opposed to lining up at wing-back, Pedro Porro has sparkled so far this season – registering six assists to date from his right-back berth.

Emerson Royal

6 – No longer the first-choice pick at right-back, Emerson has commendably stepped in at centre-back on occasion this season and coped admirably. A useful squad player for Postecoglou to call upon.

Destiny Udogie

9 – While others have sparkled, one of the most impressive, surprise packages of the season for Spurs has been Destiny Udogie, with the Italy international taking the league by storm since his belated arrival from Udinese. As footballJOE's Hunter Godson suggested, the 20-year-old "gets into nearly every team in the world already".

Centre-backs

Ben Davies

6 – It is a worrying state of affairs that Ben Davies is the only credible back-up option at centre-back and while the long-serving Welshman never disgraces himself, Postecoglou is aware that a new addition will be needed in January.

Cristian Romero

7 – Only recently dubbed the "best defender in the world" by Lionel Messi, the World Cup winner needs to cut the reckless side out of his game, having already spent time on the sidelines this season due to suspension.

Micky van de Ven

7 – Were it not for the injury he sustained back in early November, the summer signing would likely have had a far higher rating, having been dubbed the "real deal" by ex-Manchester United man, Rio Ferdinand following his fine start to life in north London.

Midfielders

Yves Bissouma

8 – While the former Brighton and Hove Albion man has also had issues with suspension of late, he has been a man reborn at the base of Postecoglou's midfield – with pundit Micah Richards dubbing him Tottenham's "most consistent player" earlier in the campaign.

Pape Matar Sarr

7 – Much like the man above, Pape Matar Sarr hardly got a look in under Conte after featuring just 17 times last term, yet is definitely making up for lost time now. The Senegalese star has largely been an everpresent since scoring against Man United back in August.

Giovani Lo Celso

6 – The jury is out on the Argentine's long-term future at N17, after spending the previous 18 months on loan at Villarreal, yet as his stunner against Aston Villa showcased, there is a quality player in there for Postecoglou to utilise.

James Maddison

8 – While James Maddison has cruelly seen his impact curtailed due to injury, prior to that he had arguably been the "signing of the summer" – as per TNT Sports pundit Joe Cole – after registering eight goal involvements from just 11 league games.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

5 – While injuries and suspensions have allowed the Dane to earn a way back into the side in recent months, he looks set to be on his way sooner rather than later – amid talk of a January exit.

Forwards

Brennan Johnson

6 – An injury-hit beginning to life in N17 has hampered the Wales international's progress, yet Brennan Johnson is beginning to show signs of his exciting potential. Still a long way to go to warrant that rather hefty £47.5m transfer fee.

Dejan Kulusevski

8 – Now beginning to thrive in a number ten berth, Dejan Kulusevski – who podcaster Charlie Parrish described as an "absolute trojan" earlier this month – could well be starting to blossom into an £80m-£100m player. That's the verdict of Neville, at least.

Richarlison

6 – While still not prolific, Richarlison looks way beyond the player who scored just one league goal last season – notably netting a brace in the 4-1 thrashing of Newcastle United just over a week or so ago. The Brazilian needs to maintain that momentum, however, with Postecoglou reportedly having his eye on a new striker in January.

Heung-min Son

8 – Harry Kane who? With the Englishman out the door, his former partner-in-crime has stepped up superbly, leading the way as the club's top scorer this season. Now spearheading the frontline as an unorthodox number nine, it is hard to imagine where Spurs would be without him.

Ange Postecoglou

8 – An early League Cup exit and a run of five league games without a win in late November/early December somewhat spoiled the party, but boy has there been a lot to like about Postecoglou's embryonic Spurs career. The football is beautiful and the man in charge seemingly wants to be there – how often have Spurs been able to say that in recent years?

A temporada 2021 do CRB começa neste sábado e o primeiro desafio é o ASA, pela 2ª rodada do Campeonato Alagoano e a expectativa do elenco e comissão técnica está imensa.

Consciente que a continuidade do seu trabalho vai trazer resultados, o técnico Roberto Fernandes deu indícios de como o time vai entrar em campo para o clássico.

‘Temos uma equipe muito madura e os caras são conscientes das nossas responsabilidades e objetivos. Acho que um clássico não vai mudar a forma como jogamos’, afirmou ao ge, antes de completar:

‘Muitos desses jogadores não são do Nordeste e não entendem o peso que é jogar contra o ASA. Conhecem mais o CRB x CSA, que é um clássico da capital. Então não acho que isso vá mudar a forma como encaramos esse jogo’.

O duelo entre CRB e ASA acontece nó sábado, a partir das 17h (Horário de Brasília), no estádio Rei Pelé.
