Newcastle eyeing their next Woltemade already amid belief he'd be tempted to join

Newcastle United have been boosted by a new transfer update, with an “outstanding” player open to the idea of moving to St James’ Park in the January transfer window.

Howe reflects on painful Newcastle defeat

The Magpies suffered more late home heartbreak in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, losing 2-1 against Arsenal in the dying seconds, bringing back memories of the recent defeat to Liverpool.

Speaking after the match, Eddie Howe couldn’t hide the fact that it was a painful loss for Newcastle, but he still tried to find positives at the same time.

‘Two really late goals here at home hurt. We have to reflect and acknowledge that we weren’t at our best. There was not lack of effort but from a footballing side, it wasn’t quite there.

“That was probably the key thing, the number of corners we allowed them to have. I think Odegaard made a difference to their overall performance. The weight of pressure eventually told. No lack of effort but the little details have cost us.”

Newcastle’s start to the season hasn’t been ideal, with the Magpies sitting 15th in the Premier League table with just one win to their name, arguably highlighting the need for more new signings as the grind of four comeptitions already shows its teeth.

"Outstanding" Germany star open to Newcastle move

According to WA.de [via Sport Witness], Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt would be tempted to join Newcastle in January. The Bundesliga side see it as “financially attractive” to sell the 29-year-old midway through the season – he is out of contract next summer and would be able to leave on a free transfer – with Aston Villa also mentioned as potential suitors.

Newcastle, for their part, are keen to explore the German market for their next Nick Woltemade, having already seen positive signs from the young striker on Tyneside.

Brandt is a proven top-level player with 48 caps to his name for Germany, so it is easy to see why Howe could be keen on bringing him to Newcastle.

An attacker midfielder by trade, his versatility also means he can do a good job out wide, while Lars Ricken recently heaped praise on him.

“The things Julian shows are hard to learn: instinctively moving into the right spaces at the right time, playing passes with exactly the right pace. It was an outstanding response from Julian: to come into the team at such short notice and then decisively influence – or even decide – the game.”

As bad as Burn: Howe must drop Newcastle star who won just 23% duels

Dan Burn isn’t the only Newcastle United stalwart who will now be fearful about his starting spot.

If Dortmund are willing to sell Brandt in January, Newcastle should be looking to swoop, at a time when improved depth is needed in attacking areas, especially if they advance into the latter stages of the Champions League.

Man Utd tried to sign £200k-p/w star who's been "brilliant" for Liverpool

Manchester United made an approach to sign a “brilliant” player, but they were too late, with bitter rivals Liverpool winning the race for his signature.

Man Utd's summer signings under question after poor start

Despite a 3-2 victory over Burnley last time out offering some respite, Man United have undoubtedly made a poor start to the new campaign, having infamously been knocked out of the EFL Cup by League Two side Grimsby Town at the second-round stage.

As such, there are some justified concerns about some of the Red Devils’ summer acquisitions, not least Benjamin Sesko, who is yet to make his mark, having mainly been utlised as a substitute, and failed to open his goal-scoring account.

RB Leipzig's BenjaminSeskoreacts

However, Sesko believes he will soon find his feet once he adjusts to the Premier League, recently saying: “The level of the matches is certainly much higher, the players and teammates are also at a higher level,”

“After all, English football is at the highest level in the world of football.

“But I am very much looking forward to the coming period, also because I am getting better and faster in every training session, and I am also progressing in my football mentality every day.”

Man Utd now plan to smash transfer record for £100m "powerhouse" in 2026

United are gearing up to make a huge bid for one of their prime targets next year.

ByDominic Lund Sep 3, 2025

The jury is still out on the Slovenian, but it has recently been revealed that Man United could’ve signed a different striker, who has made a flying start to life in the Premier League.

Indeed, according to a report from The Athletic, Man United made a late approach to sign Hugo Ekitike before his transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt to Liverpool, but the wheels were already in motion for a move to Anfield.

As such, United’s bitter rivals ultimately came out on top in the race for Ekitike’s signature, and he has since gone on to impress for Arne Slot’s side, although there are signs the Slovenia international could soon be capable of making a similar impact.

How Sesko's goal-scoring record compares to Ekitike's

The Frenchman, who is widely reported to earn £200k-a-week, has scored three goals in his first four games for Liverpool, with Jamie Carragher lauding the 23-year-old for the “brilliant” start he’s made to life in England.

However, Sesko actually had a slightly better goals-per-game record in the Bundesliga during his time with RB Leipzig, averaging 0.42, compared to 0.40 from Liverpool’s summer signing.

Carragher and Roy Keane also agreed that it is “too early to tell” whether Sesko will be a success, given that he is yet to be given a proper run of games, so he should not be judged properly until after the international break.

Next Strand Larsen: Wolves agree personal terms with "insane" £17m talent

Wolverhampton Wanderers need new recruits between now and Monday’s deadline if they’re going to stay in the Premier League.

So far, Vítor Pereira’s team have played two and lost two this season, demolished 4-0 by Manchester City on opening weekend, before another defeat on Saturday, this time at the hands of Bournemouth.

Tuesday’s comeback win over West Ham United in the Carabao Cup may spark reason for optimism, however, not least with man of the moment, Jørgen Strand Larsen, netting twice off the bench to power the Old Gold to victory.

That brace was just the latest headline-grabbing occasion for the Scandinavian sensation, with Pereira’s side perhaps now seeking to replicate that success with another exciting acquisition.

Wolves set for another La Liga recruit

With Matheus Cunha having departed for Manchester United, Larsen will be Wolves’ main man in attack.

He scored 14 Premier League goals last season, a very impressive return, before making the move from Celta Vigo permanent for around £23m earlier this summer.

His importance is why the club rejected a £50m bid for the Norwegian striker from Newcastle United earlier this week, although the Magpies are still hopeful of getting a deal done.

Meantime, it is being widely reported that Ladislav Krejčí is close to joining Wolves from Girona for £26m, set to undergo a medical in the coming days.

However, he is not the only La Liga player seemingly Molineux-bound.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

That’s because, according to a report by the Telegraph, Wolves have ‘agreed personal terms’ with Getafe midfielder Christantus Uche.

The Nigerian international is expected to cost around £17m, with reports in Spain suggesting Getafe are under pressure to sell in order to comply with LaLiga’s squad cost limit regulations, so will Uche soon swap Madrid for the Midlands?

What Wolves fans should expect from Christantus Uche

The 22-year-old has enjoyed an “insane” rise in the last 12 months or so, as per one content creator, given that he was playing for Ceuta in the Primera Federación, Spain’s third-tier, as recently as the 2023/24 season.

His form there earned him a move to Getafe last summer, his top-flight debut coming almost exactly a year ago, making 33 appearances in LaLiga last season, uniquely deployed all over the attacking area of the pitch by manager José Bordalás, utilised as a striker, a winger and an attacking midfielder.

His tally of four goals may not leap off the page, but it’s worth considering the fact that Azulones scored only 34 times as a team, the second-fewest in the division, outscoring only rock-bottom Real Valladolid.

Uche also commenced the new campaign by netting during Getafe’s 2-0 victory over Celta Vigo at Balaídos on the opening weekend, assisting Adrián Liso to score the other goal too, so let’s further examine his importance to Getafe.

As the table documents, Uche ranked in the top three at Getafe last season for all attacking metrics included, top of the pile in terms of assists, big chances created and goal-creating actions, underlining his importance.

Jacek Kulig of Football Talent Scout is certainly a fan, describing him as a “superb… box-to-box midfielder”, while elsewhere noting that “passing, physicality and work rate” are his biggest strengths.

So, why would he be such an excellent signing for Wolves?

Well, Uche is accustomed to playing for a struggling side, given that Getafe ranked second-bottom for average possession in LaLiga last season (41.2%), above only Espanyol.

During his own penultimate season in LaLiga, Strand Larsen also scored just four goals for Celta Vigo, before increasing that total to 13 prior to joining Wolves, and all available evidence suggests that Uche is capable of producing a similar increase.

Having seen the success that Tuesday’s Carabao Cup hero has enjoyed at Molineux to date, Wolves should well aim to repeat the trick with another exciting LaLiga import.

Shami vs Connolly: A different kind of six and out

The Australian opener played nine balls and missed six in a row before edging behind for a duck

Cooper Connolly, 21, was playing the Champions Trophy semi-final against India in Dubai because of the injury to regular opener Matthew Short. Opening the innings with Travis Head, he faced nine balls from Mohammed Shami, making contact with only two of his first eight balls before edging behind for a duck. They made two changes to their XI, bringing in Connolly and legspinner Tanveer Sangha for Short and fast bowler Spencer Johnson. India named the same XI that won their last group game against New Zealand, fielding a four-spinner attack.

Bid made: Fulham leapfrog Aston Villa in race for "fantastic" £860k striker

Fulham have now overtaken two of their Premier League rivals in the race for a striker, having tabled an official offer, according to a report.

Cottagers eyeing striker despite Atalanta ending Muniz pursuit

Atalanta have been heavily linked with a move for Rodrigo Muniz this summer, but the Italian club have grown tired of waiting for the Cottagers to lower their lofty asking price, instead opting to make a move for Lecce striker Nikola Krstovic.

As such, Muniz is now expected to remain at Craven Cottage this summer, which is likely to be music to Marco Silva’s ears, given that the Brazilian once again underlined his importance to the side by scoring a dramatic late equaliser against Brighton at the weekend.

As such, there may be little reason for Silva to bring in a centre-forward capable of immediately challenging for Muniz’s starting spot, but an approach has been made for an up-and-coming prospect.

Fulham'sRodrigoMunizreacts after the match

That is according to a report from Mozzart Sport, which states Fulham have now submitted an official offer for Partizan Belgrade striker Dusan Jovanovic, who has also been identified as a target for Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa.

However, after making an opening bid, a move to Craven Cottage is now deemed the ‘most concrete’ option, indicating the west Londoners have overtaken their Premier League rivals in the race for Jovanovic’s signature.

Boost for Fulham: £100k-a-week PL forward now keen on Craven Cottage move

The Cottagers are looking to sign a Premier League forward.

ByDominic Lund Aug 20, 2025

That said, a report from TV Arena Sport suggests the Cottagers are not prepared to spend big on the 19-year-old, having only offered €250k (£216k), which was knocked back, with the Serbian club looking for at least €1m (£860k).

"Fantastic" Jovanovic is one for the future

It remains to be seen whether Fulham are able to get a deal over the line, having tabled what has been deemed an insultingly low offer, but there are signs the youngster could be an exciting long-term addition to the squad.

Most notably, the teenager maintained a very impressive goal and assist record at youth level across the 2022-23 and 2023-24 campaigns.

As such, the Serbian has been able to force himself into first-team contention at a very young age, having now made 19 appearances for the senior Partizan side, while he is also held in high regard by scout Jacek Kulig.

Kulig has lauded Jovanovic as “fantastic” in the past, indicating the starlet could go on to be successful in the Premier League, although that is unlikely to be in the near future, given that he is yet to properly establish himself in Serbia.

Bancroft fails again as Victoria get into strong position against WA

Western Australia, the three-time reigning champions, haven’t lost a game this season so far

Stumps Lower-order resistance helped Victoria claim a 206-run first-innings lead in their Sheffield Shield clash with three-time reigning champions Western Australia. After being skittled for 167, WA appeared to be containing Victoria at the Junction Oval when the hosts were 207 for 6 on Saturday. But No. 9 Xavier Crone hit an unbeaten 62 from 65 balls, smashing three sixes to help Victoria reach 373.Fellow lower-order batters Fergus O’Neill (44) and Sam Elliott (26) also chipped in to make WA’s bowlers toil in hot conditions for most of the day.Opening bowlers Joel Paris (3 for 44) and Cameron Gannon (3 for 59) as well as spinner Corey Rocchiccioli (3 for 115) took all but one of WA’s wickets.WA had to bat for the last hour before stumps on Saturday, reaching 33 for 1 with Sam Fanning and Jayden Goodwin at the crease. Opener Cameron Bancroft, who has endured an unfortunate form slump after dominating the Shield for the past two seasons, struggled again. After recently being overlooked for a call-up to the Test team for the first time since the 2019 Ashes, Bancroft fell to O’Neill for 11. In the first innings on Friday, Bancroft could only manage 12, also losing his wicket to O’Neill.Victoria have set themselves up nicely to become the first team to beat WA in the Shield this season. WA are aiming to claim a fourth straight title, and were undefeated after three matches before they headed to Melbourne.

Burnley make approach to sign £200k-a-week Chelsea player, he "will leave"

Newly-promoted Burnley have made an audacious approach to sign a Chelsea big-name this summer, with Enzo Maresca and BlueCo looking to trim their bloated squad before deadline day on September 1.

£80m Chelsea star tells agents to find him new club after becoming "unhappy"

He’s keen on leaving Stamford Bridge.

ByEmilio Galantini Jul 25, 2025

Their £87.5 million financial windfall from winning the Club World Cup, alongside their estimated £100 million raised through player sales already, has put Chelsea in very good stead when it comes to the PSR threshold – even with their £145m splash on Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro.

However, Chelsea do still have to sell, mainly because of their recent pact with UEFA.

“Last week they came to an agreement with UEFA that basically said that if they want to register new players for the Champions League next season, they have to make sure that their transfer spend this season is balanced out this summer by the players they sell as well,” said Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol earlier this month.

“So they’ve signed players like Liam Delap and Joao Pedro. That means they also have to sell players.”

Chelsea were fined around £26.7 million by UEFA for breaching their FFP laws, and they could be slapped with an additional £51.2 million penalty if they fail to comply again in the next four years.

That being said, the threat of a reduced Champions League squad list is even more pressing, especially as Chelsea try to upgrade further with potential deals for both Ajax defender Jorrel Hato and RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons (BBC).

Christopher Nkunku, Raheem Sterling, Renato Veiga, Axel Disasi, Carney Chukwuemeka, Lesley Ugochukwu, Armando Broja, Tosin Adarabioyo, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Nicolas Jackson, João Félix, Trevoh Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile and Alfie Gilchrist have all been named as Chelsea players who could leave this summer and make room for new additions.

Chelsea will be particularly keen to offload left-back Ben Chilwell, who’s on around £200,000-per-week, and journalist Simon Phillips has an update on this.

Ben Chilwell set to leave Chelsea with Burnley approach made

The left-back once captained Chelsea but has suffered from crippling injury problems in the last few seasons, with BlueCo looking to part company.

Chilwell was never in Maresca’s plans right from the off, and was omitted from the squad last summer with Raheem Sterling, later joining Crystal Palace on loan for the second half of 2024/2025, where he impressed in flashes.

Now, Phillips reports that Burnley have made an enquiry about signing Chilwell from Chelsea, but Scott Parker’s side may only want a loan as things stand.

“Ben Chilwell will leave Chelsea this summer after spending last season on loan with Crystal Palace, which is considered a successful spell for the former England left back who was signed for Chelsea by Frank Lampard,” wrote Phillips.

“Chelsea want to sell him permanently, but most recent enquiries that have come in lately have been for a loan move only.

“SPTC sources have heard Burnley have made an enquiry to Chelsea for Chilwell to understand any conditions of a deal to sign Chilwell this summer.

“We are unclear what kind of deal Burnley would offer, but sources expect it to be some sort of loan deal. The ball will then be in Chelsea and Chilwell’s court in terms of what deal they will accept.”

The most expensive cars owned by footballers in detail:

10

Kevin De Bruyne

McLaren P1 – £1.15m

A Manchester City legend, Kevin De Bruyne recently departed the Etihad after a hugely successful 10-year stay. Before leaving, De Bruyne was picking up a whopping £400,000-a-week with the Sky Blues, so it shouldn’t come as no surprise that he owns a car worth more than £1m.

According to reports, the attacking midfielder has a McLaren P1 which has a valuation of £1.15m. One of the best sports cars around, the P1 has a total of 903 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under three seconds.

9

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Ferrari LaFerrari – £1.2m

Only 499 Ferrari LaFerrari’s have been made, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is one of two known footballers to be an owner of the £1.2m supercar.

The former Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and Chelsea striker is known for his lavish lifestyles and that is shown in his car collection with the Ferrari LaFerrari dubbed the ‘most powerful street-legal supercar the Italian manufacturer has produced’.

8

Son Heung-min

Ferrari LaFerrari – £1.2m

As well as Aubameyang, Tottenham icon Son Heung-min also owns a Ferrari LaFerrari, although he ditched the iconic red version for black.

The South Korean superstar was told by Spurs that ‘he could not own a red one due to their rivalry with Arsenal’, with the supercar reaching a top speed of 227mph and boasting a 6.3-litre V12 engine.

7

Samuel Eto’o

Aston Martin One-77 – £1.3m

Former Barcelona and Inter Milan star Samuel Eto’o retired back in 2019, however, he still made enough during his playing days to splash out on an Aston Martin One-77.

Worth £1.3m, three-time Champions League winner Eto’o is the proud owner of the supercar, which is rarer than the Ferrari LaFerrari, with only 77 units ever made back in 2012.

6

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Ferrari Monza SP2 – £1.4m

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was an extraordinary player in his prime, and his lavish lifestyle saw him purchase a Ferrari Monza SP2 for his 38th birthday back in 2019.

It set the former Swedish striker back £1.4m, with only 499 being made in the world. The value of the rare supercar is now thought to be worth £2m, so Ibrahimovic could make a tidy profit if he cashes in.

5

Karim Benzema

Bugatti Veyron Pur Sang – £1.56m

French forward Karim Benzema is currently earning a whopping £830,000-a-week in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ittihad after joining in 2023, and he has quite a collection of luxury cars.

His most valuable and fastest vehicle is the Bugatti Veyron Pur Sang, with only five ever made in the world. Chrome painted and a body made up of polished aluminium and black carbon fibre, it is thought to be worth more than £1.5m.

4

Neymar

Lamborghini Veneno – £2.5m

Neymar’s net worth is thought to be around £280m, so it’s no shock that he can afford a £2.5m Lamborghini Veneno, one of just 13 to have been produced.

The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star’s supercar is powered by a 6.5L V12 engine and is capable of reaching a top speed of 221 mph.

In total, Neymar’s car collection is thought to be worth a combined £11m, which includes an Aston Martin Vulcan and Maserati MC12.

3

Erling Haaland

Mercedes AMG One – £2.7m

A goalscoring machine for Manchester City, Erling Haaland’s new Etihad contract sees him pick up £525,000-a-week, which works out at over £27m-a-year.

His rare Mercedes AMG One is worth £2.7m, just over five weeks’ worth of wages, and can reach a top speed of just under 220mph. There are only 275 Mercedes AMG One’s around, and Haaland can call himself one of the lucky owners.

2

Cristiano Ronaldo

Bugatti La Voiture Noire – £12m

Earning a staggering £172m-a-year in Saudi Arabia, Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly the owner of the only Bugatti La Voiture Noire ever made.

Worth £12m, the Bugatti La Voiture Noire was produced in 2019 and is described as ‘the rarest and most exclusive of all modern Bugattis’.

In total, Ronaldo’s car collection is thought to be worth around £19m, a figure which works out at around six weeks’ wages with Al-Nassr.

1

Lionel Messi

Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti – £25m

Top of the charts, allegedly, is Lionel Messi and his Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti. It is claimed that Messi actually outbid his rival Ronaldo for the classic Ferrari at a cost of £25m.

Only four Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti’s were made in the 1950s, and it is seen as a must have vintage car, powered by a 4.0L V12 engine and able to reach a top speed of 186 mph.

The bidding started at around £17m and ended on £25m, with Messi thought to be the winner of the auction in Paris back in 2016.
