Spurs Plot Summer Move For £2.7k-p/w "Rolls Royce"

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keeping tabs on Peterborough United sensation, Ronnie Edwards, having previously been linked with a move for the youngster last summer.

What's the latest on Edwards to Tottenham?

According to Football League World, the Lilywhites – as well as West Ham United – are believed to have been watching the 20-year-old for 'some time', with an exit from London Road said to be potentially on the cards for the promising centre-back following the League One side's failure to secure promotion.

This follows a previous report from the Daily Mail last summer which claimed that the north London outfit and fellow Premier League side, Crystal Palace were set to battle it out for the 5 foot 11 ace, with a fee of around £15m having been mooted.

The Sun also noted in the past that Sir Alex Ferguson had urged his former club Manchester United to make a move for the Harlow-born starlet, with that further indication of just how highly-regarded Edwards is.

Who is Ronnie Edwards?

The £2.7k-per-week defender – who joined his current side from Barnet back in 2020 – is regarded as an "incredible talent", according to manager Darren Ferguson, with the Scotsman also hailing his precocious gem as "easily the best young player I’ve managed".

Also described as a "Rolls Royce" by Peterborough chairman, Barry Fry, the England U20 international has been a leading figure for the lower-league side of late despite his relative youth, having kept 15 clean sheets in 42 league games this season, while also averaging two tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game.

That stellar impact has unsurprisingly sparked interest from Levy and co, with there a potential for young Edwards to be the next EFL star to make the jump up to the Premier League, following in the footsteps of compatriot and fellow defender, John Stones.

Man City's John Stones

In the case of the latter man, the 28-year-old began life lower down the footballing pyramid at hometown club, Barnsley, before being snapped up on a £3m deal by Everton at the age of just 18 in 2013.

That move to Goodison Park quickly proved fruitful as the 6 foot 2 ace went on to make 95 appearances for the Toffees over the next three years, with former boss Roberto Martinez describing him as "potentially the best centre-back that England has ever produced" in 2015.

A £47.5m move to Manchester City soon followed in the summer of 2016, with Stones having gone on to claim five Premier League titles since then under Pep Guardiola, notably being praised for his "magnificent" form this season, according to BT Sport pundit, Rio Ferdinand.

Following his relatively humble beginnings at Oakwell, the 66-cap gem is now a key figure for both club and country, with young Edwards no doubt hoping he can emulate that feat if he is to seal his own top-flight move this summer.

Having seen the success that Stones has achieved at the Etihad of late, Spurs may well be keen to find their own version of the City star with the capture of the emerging Peterborough wonderkid.

"Outstanding" Leeds 21 y/o "Open" To Elland Road Stay

Leeds United right-back Cody Drameh is now "open to staying" at Elland Road this summer, according to Joe Donnohue.

What’s the latest on Cody Drameh’s future?

Drameh recently helped Luton Town win promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs, featuring in the Wembley final victory over Coventry City.

The full-back, who was sent to Kenilworth Road back in January when Jesse Marsch was still in charge, with the former Leeds manager saying:

"Yes, I see, no doubt, a future here for him. He and I have, I think, formed a pretty strong relationship over the last eight months.

“Over time, us getting to know each other and him being a part of what we've been building here, I think he sees his potential here.

“I told him when he left [on loan to Luton] that it was unfortunate that, with both Luke and Rasmus right now, that we just didn't have more opportunities for him to develop right here, right now with us. Because in many ways, I think he's ready for those challenges.”

Six months on, though, and he has been linked with a permanent Elland Road exit. The Englishman has just over 12 months remaining on his Whites contract and there have been reports that he wanted to quit Yorkshire to play in the Premier League next season.

However, he now appears to have had a change of heart in a new twist following Leeds’ relegation. Donnohue, journalist for The Yorkshire Evening Post, took to Twitter on Tuesday morning to share a new update regarding the right-back. He said:

“Cody Drameh open to staying at Leeds despite securing promotion with loan club Luton, who remain interested in a permanent transfer. Circumstances beyond his control meant he had to go out on loan again, while LUFC have since provided assurances.”

Who wants to sign Cody Drameh?

The latest report suggests that whoever comes in as Leeds’ next head coach would need to be on board with keeping Drameh, with Luton still keen on completing a permanent deal.

Drameh has excelled in recent seasons in the second tier, initially at Cardiff City, where he was called “outstanding” by former manager Steve Morison. He won Cardiff’s Player of the Year award that season and went on to make 19 appearances for Luton recently, taking his Championship tally to 38 appearances in total.

The 21-year-old appears to be an exciting young defender, and after attracting interest from Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Lille and Newcastle United back in December, keeping hold of his services for the Championship could be an exciting prospect.

Rangers Could Repeat Arteta Masterclass With ‘Amazing’ Starlet

When Glasgow Rangers signed Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta back in 2002 from La Liga giants Barcelona for a fee of £6m, he was expected to bolster the squad following his exploits for Paris Saint-Germain the season before, yet they weren’t quite expecting him to become a cult hero in the process.

His debut campaign ended not only with a treble but with the then 21-year-old displaying nerves of a veteran as he calmly stuck away a last-minute penalty on the last day of the season to win Rangers the SPL title by just one goal.

He formed a solid midfield partnership with Barry Ferguson which yielded 33 goals and assists between them and although his second season ended trophyless, the Spaniard's performances across his two-year spell at the club were excellent.

Arteta left in 2004 to join Real Sociedad and the Gers haven’t had a cultured midfielder like him since, but could the Ibrox side replicate their masterclass by luring Pablo Torre to Glasgow?

Could Rangers sign Pablo Torre this summer?

According to reports from Spain last month, Rangers are one of the clubs showing interest in Torre, with a view to potentially securing a loan deal for the youngster.

Although operating in a slightly more advanced position than Arteta did at the Gers, favouring a number ten slot just behind the striker, if they landed him, Michael Beale could give him an ideal platform to shine and showcase his talents, similar to the current Arsenal boss during his spell in Scotland.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a breakout season with Racing Santander two seasons ago, registering 21 goal contributions – ten goals and 11 assists – to showcase his attacking capabilities and this led to a move to Barcelona, where he hasn’t been utilised quite as much.

Torre has made just 12 first-team appearances under Xavi, albeit scoring his only goal in the Champions League against Viktoria Plzen in a 4-2 victory which allowed him to show glimpses of his vast talent on the biggest club stage of all.

Pablo Torre for Barcelona

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has even dubbed the "little magician" as “amazing” back in 2021 and although the move to Barcelona suggested he was destined for the top, it hasn’t quite materialised yet.

Coming to Ibrox and playing every week, competing for honours and gaining more European experience could be the best move for the young playmaker and if Beale does somehow pull off a move for another young Barcelona goalscorer, they could repeat their Arteta masterclass.

Shakib highest paid local player in BPL 2016

Allrounder Shakib Al Hasan, representing Dhaka Dynamites, will be the highest paid local player in this year’s Bangladesh Premier League. He is among seven players in the A-plus category

Mohammad Isam28-Sep-2016Allrounder Shakib Al Hasan, representing Dhaka Dynamites, will be the highest paid local player in this year’s Bangladesh Premier League. He is among seven players in the A-plus category, which includes top Bangladesh cricketers.Shakib is set to receive at least Tk 55 lakh (approx. $68,750), the cap set for his payment. Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, Mashrafe Mortaza and Mahmudullah will get at least Tk 50 lakh each from Barisal Bulls, Chittagong Vikings, Comilla Victorians and Khulna Titans respectively. Sabbir Rahman and Soumya Sarkar are also among the A-category players but will get Tk 40 lakh each from Rajshahi.According to the BPL governing council’s secretary Ismail Haider Mallick, these players had made an official request to the board to choose their teams and have their salary cap raised to match the BPL foreign players’ cap.”These senior players had a prayer to us, to match what foreign players will get in this tournament,” Mallick said. “In other franchise-based domestic tournaments, foreign players get the same amount as local players.”They also asked to choose their own team, which they said would enable to earn a little more money than the cap given by the BPL governing council. The board however won’t take responsibility of the extra payment that they get from the franchise. They will only be responsible for the amount that we have put as cap.”Mallick said that Shakib’s higher payment than the other six in the same category is because of his experience having played in various T20 leagues around the world. He added that the BPL governing council had to keep seven players in the same category to distribute them evenly between the teams.”The pricing is merit-based. Shakib is the only Bangladeshi player who plays in the franchise-based T20 leagues around the world. His pricing has to be higher than the others. We have decided after discussing with the selectors. Shakib and Soumya Sarkar won’t get the same rate. Shakib and the rest of the senior players have little difference between them in terms of the money,” Mallick said. The tournament is scheduled to begin on November 4.

Duminy hoping to contribute more with ball

JP Duminy still has designs on becoming a full-fledged allrounder for South Africa, especially in shorter formats. After his career-best 4 for 16 in the one-off match against Ireland, Duminy admitted he has been working on his bowling and hopes it will be used more in future.”I want to be able to contribute a lot more, especially in the shorter formats,” Duminy said. “I want to be able to bowl 10 overs in a one-day game and four overs in a T20. That will also help the team in terms of how we go about the dynamic.”Duminy has bowled 10 overs in an ODI four times before, always with success. Against Australia in Sydney in January 2009, Duminy took 1 for 52, in the return series at home in Johannesburg that April, he took 3 for 48. Four years later, in a Champions Trophy match against India in Cardiff, Duminy’s returns were 1 for 42 and later that year against Sri Lanka in Pallekele, he kept things tight with 0 for 34.Although Duminy has not been seen much with the ball in ODIs this year – he has played 11 matches and bowled in six of those, totalling 23 overs – he was asked to do the job more in 2015. In 17 matches, Duminy only didn’t bowl in once and he bowled more than five overs nine times.Should Duminy become a genuine allrounder, he will join a slew of current South African limited-overs with dual ability. Wayne Parnell, Dwaine Pretorius, Andile Phehlukwayo, Chris Morris (currently injured) and to a lesser extent Farhaan Behardien can all offer both disciplines, which stand-in captain Faf du Plessis said will be key to South Africa’s hopes of winning trophies. “We’ve always said that we really need allrounders to come through to make the balance of our team easier,” du Plessis had said, before the Ireland match. But team balance is on du Plessis and Duminy’s minds for other reasons, and in another format. With AB de Villiers’ out of action for the next two months as he undergoes elbow surgery, both du Plessis, who is likely to captain, and Duminy can consider their Test places safe after they were dropped at different stages of last season. They would not have feared as much in shorter formats, although they have both also come under fire there too. Duminy’s unbeaten 52 against Ireland was his first half-century in 12 ODI innings dating back to July last year and while du Plessis has scored three fifties in his last nine innings, he is often criticised for a slow strike-rate, something which was evident in the Ireland game. For the first seven overs of du Plessis’ time at the crease, South Africa’s run rate slowed significantly: it was 6.6 when he came in at the start of the 25th, and the team scored at a rate of 4.1 for the next seven. That was likely the difference between a score of 400 and a score of 350 – which anyway did not matter in the end given the margin of defeat – but Duminy has identified that period as an area in which South Africa need to be more proactive.”It’s an area of the game we have identified to improve on in one-day cricket. We’ve discussed a few options of how we can go about it better,” Duminy said. “It depends on how many wickets are down and the situation of the game, but it is a crucial part in terms of winning big games. Capitalising on that period. We’ve spoken about it, we’ve put plans in place, now we’ve got to put in the performance.”

Leeds United Eyeing 40-Year-Old As New Manager

Leeds United reportedly see West Brom boss Carlos Corberan as a possible ideal option to be their next manager moving forward.

Has Corberan been linked with Leeds job?

The 40-year-old has done a hugely impressive job at the Hawthorns during his short spell there to date, having arrived when they were second-bottom of the Championship late last year.

West Brom ended up coming close to finishing in the playoff positions, however, and if Corberan had been in charge a little longer, chances are they would have achieved that goal.

Since Sam Allardyce's exit as Leeds manager was confirmed last week, numerous names have been linked with replacing him in the Elland Road hot seat. Steven Gerrard and Brendan Rodgers have emerged as high-profile options, but Corberan's name has also been thrown into the hat.

The Whites seemingly consider the Spaniard as a strong choice to come in, having seen the job he is doing with the Baggies, but it remains to be seen if he will eventually be the man to be handed the reins.

carlos-corberan-west-brom-leeds-united

Is Corberan really a target?

According to Football Insider, Corberan is indeed "on the shortlist" at Leeds currently, and it is unlikely that they will look to bring in a "traditional figure" in the mould of Allardyce.

Interestingly, the West Brom boss is seen as "ideal" by those high up at the club, should they want to bring in a long-term appointment who can build something special over time.

Leeds are further boosted by a claim in the report that states that Corberan's future with the Baggies is also in doubt "amid a backdrop of financial issues at the club".

It is so important that the Whites get this decision spot on, avoiding the same ludicrous situation they have found themselves in this season, with Jesse Marsch, Javi Garcia and Allardyce all in charge at some point in the campaign.

Corberan may still be a young manager – one who isn't as proven or well-known as the likes of Gerrard and Rodgers – but the progress he has made at West Brom has been bordering on astonishing, and he has even reportedly been inspired by the style of former Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa.

The fact that Corberan has worked at Leeds in the past is also a bonus, having spent three years in charge of the Under-23s between 2017 and 2020, and he will have learned plenty from Bielsa in that time.

Aston Villa Interested In Signing Relegated Winger

Aston Villa have been linked to a relegated Premier League ace ahead of the transfer window, as Unai Emery prepares to bolster his squad this summer.

While the Spaniard is reportedly set to be given a £150m transfer kitty to spend, Villa could land a budget signing from a newly relegated side as per recent reports.

What’s the latest on Crysencio Summerville to Aston Villa?

As reported by sports outlet in the Netherlands FC Update (via Sport Witness) Aston Villa have their eye on potentially signing Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville.

The narrative of the report surrounds the forward’s potential move to PSV, however, mentions that both RB Leipzig and Villa are also interested in the player.

Valued at €11.6m (£10m) by Football Transfers, the young attacker could be a steal for Emery’s side.

What could Crysencio Summerville offer to Aston Villa?

Hailed as being “absolutely incredible” by pundit Nedum Onuoha on BBC’s Match of the Day, the 21-year-old Dutchman could be a revelation under Emery.

It’s been a difficult season for the young forward, who experienced relegation with Leeds in a campaign of poor performances.

The winger, who signed from Feyenoord’s academy to Leeds’ U21s in the summer of 2020, made an impression at times this campaign, as shown through his six goal contributions in 28 appearances, scoring four and assisting two – via FBref.

In the build-up to the World Cup last year, the Rotterdam-born ace was the talk of all things Leeds, as he scored in four consecutive Premier League games, including an emphatic late winner against Liverpool at Anfield. Such impressive form saw Statman Dave applaud his "unstoppable" performances.

It went from all to nothing for the Dutchman, who struggled to re-find his form in a depleted side after the winter break.

All is far from lost for the young forward, however, who could find his form rejuvenated under Emery, and could be a valuable asset to Villa Park.

Aptly described as having an opposition defence in a “tumble dryer” by journalist Joe Donnohue, the Dutchman could replicate the feats of Anwar El Ghazi at Villa, with whom he shares a variety of attributes.

The fellow Netherlands representative was “magnificent” for Villa, as lauded by pundit Michael Brown, scoring 26 goals during his stay in the Midlands, including a crucial goal in the play-off final a few years ago.

Like El Ghazi, the 21-year-old is strong playing on the wing and is extremely direct in his play, as signified by his average of 3.22 progressive carries and 1.51 successful take-ons per 90 – as per FBref.

Similar numbers were recorded by El Ghazi in his final season at Villa Park, who registered 2.79 progressive carries and 1.45 successful take-ons per 90 on average.

The comparison between the potential summer target and the former Villa winger implies the impact the Dutchman could have in Emery’s side, and at just 21 years old, he could become a dangerous talent under the Spaniard’s care.
