Everton Want To Sign £14m-rated DCL Upgrade

Everton could finally be set to end their striking woes this summer, by preying on one of the relegated clubs…

What's the latest on Kelechi Iheanacho to Everton?

That's according to Tribal Football, who suggest that the Toffees are one of a host of Premier League clubs seeking to rescue Kelechi Iheanacho from facing the Championship with Leicester City.

With Nottingham Forest and Burnley the other main suitors, it seems that whoever gains this coup will take a small early victory over what is set to be three relegation rivals.

Football Transfers value the £80k-per-week marksman at €16.3m (£14m), however, the Foxes' status as a second-tier club could see a further bargain earned as they seek to offload their higher earners.

Is Kelechi Iheanacho better than Dominic Calvert-Lewin?

The Nigeria international has endured a tumultuous tenure across his years in England, however, has remained a top-flight mainstay ever since his emergence at Manchester City in 2015.

Despite seemingly having been around forever, he is still just 26 and poised to enter his prime years soon. That bodes well for the Merseyside club, should they sneak him through the door early.

After all, he has remained a relatively consistent goal threat in his last three years at the King Power Stadium, notching 12 goals during the 2020/21 league campaign, then recording a further 17 goal contributions across all competitions the year following, before his five goals and five assists proved not enough to halt the relegation of his team most recently.

dominic-calvert-lewin-everton

Although when fit Dominic Calvert-Lewin arguably boasts the perfect profile to be a Sean Dyche number nine, his injury woes have made him dreadfully unreliable across their last two relegation-threatened terms.

The England international made just 17 league appearances last season, matching his figure from the year prior. No longer can he be trusted as a sole forward to lead the line throughout a whole campaign, despite all the hype surrounding his pace, power and ability to score. Fortunately, these are assets that Iheanacho can also bring to the table.

When comparing the former Sheffield United gem with his potential new teammate, his best league goalscoring year came under Carlo Ancelotti, and even then that tally of 16 was only four shy of his potential successor's apex.

Purely being a present striker would most be regarded as an upgrade on Calvert-Lewin nowadays, and given that this transfer option has played nearly ten more league games than the 26-year-old across both of the past two years, the writing is on the wall. That is without mentioning the immense physical assets that arguably elevate Iheanacho beyond the struggling striker too.

Not to mention he would offer that finishing touch that has been lacking at Goodison Park, with Dyche's team having recorded just 34 goals most recently as they avoided the drop by two points.

They were the second-lowest scorers in the whole division that year, so to add someone who was once lauded by former Everton striker Tony Cottee for making finishing "look so easy", would be a match made in heaven.

Celtic Make Offer To Sign "Special" 21 Y/o Whiz

An update has emerged on Celtic and their efforts to bolster their squad following Brendan Rodgers' return to Parkhead on a three-year deal…

What's the latest on Hyun-jun Yang to Celtic?

According to South Korean outlet Newstong, the Hoops have made an offer in an attempt to snap up Gangwon FC winger Yang Hyun-jun in the summer transfer window.

The report claims that the Scottish giants have 'formally' expressed their interest as they pursue a deal for the 21-year-old attacker but the K-League outfit are not willing to accept their current bid – although it is not revealed whether it has been officially rejected or not.

It states that Celtic's proposal is not enough to tempt Gangwon into cashing in on the young gem as they are currently in a relegation battle and do not believe that there is enough money on the table to warrant taking a significant blow to their chances of avoiding the drop.

What is Yang Hyun-jun's style of play?

The exciting South Korean U23 international is a right-footed right-winger who has showcased his ability to score and assist goals at an impressive rate for a player of his age.

By pushing the club to make an offer that convinces Gangwon to part ways with the talented youngster, Rodgers could forget all about Liel Abada, who could reportedly be on his way out of Parkhead for up to £10m this summer.

Celtic winger Liel Abada.

Abada, who is also a 21-year-old right-footed forward, has proven himself to be an excellent option out wide for the Hoops in the Scottish Premiership over the last two years.

The Israel international averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.01 and plundered ten goals and five assists in 34 league outings in 2022/23, and that came after the No 11 produced ten goals and six assists in 36 outings the previous year.

Yang's form for Gangwon in 2022 indicates that the potential is there for him to be an excellent replacement for the current Celtic attacker if he departs during the summer transfer window.

The South Korean whiz, who was hailed as "special" by journalist Nathan Sartain, averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.02 across 36 K League 1 matches and contributed with eight goals and five assists, whilst he also created six 'big chances' for his teammates.

This suggests that Yang has the quality to make a big impact in the final third with his goalscoring ability and eye for a pass, which means that he could replace a large portion of the production that Abada has provided during his time in Scotland.

A return of one goal and one assist in 14 league starts this year suggests that Yang has struggled this season, but his performances in 2022 indicate that there is still a very promising player for Rodgers to potentially unearth.

Therefore, the Northern Irish tactician could forget all about Abada by signing Yang and helping the 21-year-old to rediscover his touch in the final third, as the Gangwon star has the scope to contribute with goals and assists from a wide position.

Spurs: Levy set to hold talks over "outstanding" star

Tottenham Hotspur are set to hold talks with Barcelona "in the next few days", with a view to signing Clement Lenglet on a permanent deal, according to journalist Rudy Galetti.

Is Clement Lenglet signing for Tottenham?

Daniel Levy appears to be closing in on a rather exciting signing in the form of James Maddison after successful talks, but that's not all that's going on as Spurs look to strengthen in another area this summer.

Tottenham have been negotiating a deal for Lenglet for quite some time now, with Barcelona recently proposing a swap deal including Giovani Lo Celso, who is not viewed as an "essential" player at N17.

However, Spurs were reportedly not keen on a deal of that nature, and they have instead come to the table with a bid of around €5m (£4.3m), with Barca hoping to have the transfer wrapped up by June 30th.

Not only are the La Liga club keen to conclude negotiations, the Lilywhites are also hoping for progress to be made in the near future, or they may end up moving on to other targets.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Galetti confirmed Tottenham may consider alternative options at centre-back, should the upcoming discussions not prove to be worthwhile, saying:

"The talks will also continue in the next few days, even if Tottenham Hotspur have no intention of holding long negotiation as they do have other possible names on their list of centre-backs."

Should Tottenham sign Lenglet?

The Frenchman had a mixed season on loan last season, having been hailed as "outstanding" by members of the media early on in the campaign, after making three clearances and blocking one shot in a 2-1 victory against Fulham.

As the season went on, however, the 28-year-old did put in some very poor performances, receiving a 4.6 match rating in the 4-2 loss against Manchester City in January, after making an error that led to a goal.

That said, the former Sevilla man is a vastly experienced player at the top level, making a total of 50 appearances in the Champions League, while he has also received 15 caps for France.

clement-lenglet-tottenham-hotspur-brooklyn-lyons-foster

If Spurs are able to sign Lenglet for a fee of just £4.3m, then he could be a solid addition to the squad, at least as a back-up option, however they should not be held to ransom by Barca if they demand a higher fee.

There are plenty of alternative options available, including Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo, who may also be available for a cut-price fee this summer, having recently made it clear he wants to leave, while Edmond Tapsoba at the "top of the list" of targets.

MP batsman Harpreet aggrieved by case of mistaken identity

Several newspapers and websites published the Madhya Pradesh’s batsman’s name and photograph erroneously stating he had been detained by police in Mumbai

Harpreet Singh emerged as the highest run-scorer in this season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali inter-zonal T20 tournament•ESPNcricinfo Ltd

On February 20, the day of the IPL auction, Harpreet Singh Bhatia was preparing for the Vijay Hazare Trophy with the Madhya Pradesh team in Indore when news reports emerged that the police had detained him for driving his car on to the platform of the Andheri railway station in Mumbai. It later emerged that the player in question was not Harpreet, but Harmeet Singh, the left-arm spinner who was part of India’s Under-19 World Cup-winning side in 2012.According to the , multiple news agencies and websites had mixed up the names and published Harpreet’s photograph with the erroneous story. Some websites, the said, had not corrected the mistakes until late on Wednesday. By the time the amended reports clarified that Harpreet wasn’t involved, he had already spent a harrowing few days responding to calls and messages on his supposed detention. The incident, however, coincided with Harpreet, 25, not being picked in the IPL auction. Harpreet said he wasn’t upset about not being picked at the auction, but that he was “confused” about the circumstances leading to the outcome. He had finished as the leading run-getter in the Syed Mushtaq Ali inter-zonal T20 tournament earlier this month, with 211 runs in four games, including a 51-ball 92 for Central Zone against South Zone.”It happens at times that you don’t get selected; I have no problems with that. This happened on auction day, so there was more confusion,” he tells ESPNcricinfo. “But I will feel good if I get some clarity one way or the other. Did I go unsold in the normal course of things or was it because of this incident? This incident happened two hours before the auction and the reports were on social media in no time. Such reports would have sent a wrong message to any franchise.”The Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association has supported Harpreet and pointed out that the “erroneous reporting has tarnished the name of this upcoming player beyond repairs. It has caused ‎mental trauma to the player and his goodwill.””The player also expresses that since this ‎report was widely circulated on the very same day of the IPL auction i.e. 20 February 2017, he harbours this reasonable apprehension that the IPL franchisee could have disregarded his candidature for selection, which otherwise was greatly supported by his consistent performance in BCCI domestic season and particularly the recently concluded T-20 Tournament for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy,” MPCA secretary Milind Kanmadikar said in the release.”‎MPCA supports the player in this matter and requests BCCI/IPL to consider if this incidence has erased opportunity of his selection for IPL and in the event if any remedial action can be adopted to protect the future of the player.”He felt that the inevitable fall-out of the incident was a damaged reputation. “I felt bad not because of not being picked in the auction, but that whatever name I had earned due to my hard work has been spoilt for no fault of mine. I was disturbed, but my family was more disturbed than me. I have now come out of it because you have to be strong as a sportsman if you have to do well.”Harpreet also sympathised with Harmeet, his former team-mate at the 2010 Under-19 World Cup, over the mix-up.”There is no fault of his in what has happened to me. Even he wouldn’t know what’s been happening – he must be as confused as I am,” he said. “I hope he is safe and there is no major issue. It isn’t nice when such an incident happens to someone you have played with.”Harpreet has played four IPL matches till date, turning out for Kolkata Knight Riders in one match in 2010 and three matches for the Pune Warriors between 2011 and 2012.

Man United Make Contact With £100m "Crown Jewel"

Manchester United have made contact with Brighton & Hove Albion over the potential signing of midfielder Moises Caicedo this summer.

What’s the latest on Moises Caicedo to Manchester United?

According to 90min, United have made contact with the south coast side regarding a move for their prized asset, with a potential move likely to cost £100m, although the report states this is an overall figure and not just a one-off upfront payment.

United could face stiff competition from Chelsea for his signature, with the Stamford Bridge outfit set to open talks to sign the 21-year-old according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils had a chance to sign the talented midfielder back in January 2021 for a fee of just £4m as per the report, and they will obviously be regretting that now.

Could Manchester United sign Moises Caicedo this summer?

A move to United rather than Chelsea surely has a lot more incentives for the Ecuadorian, especially with Erik ten Hag’s men playing in the Champions League, giving him a taste of Europe’s premier club competition for the first time.

A move for Mason Mount has finally been agreed and signing Caicedo would signal a major statement of intent that the club are heading in the right trajectory.

Not only has Caicedo made the second-most tackles out of any player in the Premier League with 100 last season, displaying a dogged nature which could benefit Ten Hag's midfield, but he also ranks seventh for passes, with 2,209 throughout the whole season and this ability to circulate the ball effectively is key to the Dutchman’s philosophy.

His passing ability is one of the finest on the continent, with the Brighton star ranking in the top 6% across Europe’s top five leagues for pass completion percentage per 90 (88.5%) while also ranking in the top 13% for both tackles per 90 (2.87) and interceptions per 90 (1.61) and this could improve should he jump ship to United.

Ten Hag won't only be getting a player who has clearly enjoyed success in the top flight already, but one that could still significantly improve over the coming years, which suggests a fee of £100m may turn into a fine investment.

Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Lauded as a “crown jewel of a new generation” by historian Enrico Castro-Montes, the ceiling is limitless for the youngster, as he could become one of the finest Ecuadorian players of all time, and with experience at the World Cup already under his belt, the pressure of playing for United shouldn’t faze him.

He could be a dream signing for Ten Hag and everything must be done in order to fend off Chelsea and get a move sealed as swiftly as possible.

'Future generations will put T20 first' – Buttler

Test cricket is facing “some big challenges” if it is to remain relevant and popular in the era of T20, according to England’s Jos Buttler

George Dobell in Basseterre23-Feb-2017Test cricket is facing “some big challenges” if it is to remain relevant and popular in the era of T20, according to England’s Jos Buttler. While Buttler, one of eight England players due to appear in this year’s IPL, believes Test cricket is still perceived as “the ultimate” challenge for current players, he feels that future generations may well prioritise differently. And he has some sympathy for that view as he feels T20 provides a great level of entertainment and an opportunity to earn a level of wealth all but unprecedented by those playing the longest format. The example of Tymal Mills may be particularly telling. Limited to a career as a T20 specialist by a back condition that would have forced him into premature retirement a decade or so ago, he attracted a bid of USD 1.8 million and has proved the point that there is no need to appear in the longer formats to enjoy a lucrative and glamorous career in the game.”For my era, the 2005 Ashes was the big thing,” Buttler said. “Test cricket has always been held in high regard and I think it’s still probably the ultimate to play.”I had a little taste of that. When Mark Wood bowled Nathan Lyon [to clinch the 2015 Ashes at Trent Bridge]… that feeling, whatever sum of money you went for in a Twenty20 league, you’re never going to replicate that.”But I can understand a 15-year-old putting T20 first. I think we have to be honest and say Test cricket is facing some big challenges.”Youngsters probably look at Tymal Mills and think ‘If I concentrate on T20, it could be a real career’.”While Buttler retains hopes of playing all three formats – he regained a place in the Test team in India – he is sometimes frustrated by the apparent disdain that is applied towards T20 specialists. As far as he is concerned, the skills required are every bit as deserving of praise as those required for success in Test cricket.”It’s not that it gets disrespected exactly, but it is almost seen as not the proper format,” he said. “There seems to be a view that if you want to just play Twenty20, you’re taking an easy option.”I don’t think you should look at it like that. If you enjoy Twenty20 and you want to play it, that’s great. And if guys are determined to become Test cricketers, then so be it as well. I don’t think you should be detrimental about people’s decisions either way.”Buttler feels that the popularity of England players in the IPL auction may show how far their limited-overs cricket has come in recent times. But he also feels that now is the time for England to stop being seen as “improved” or “promising” and start delivering success in major tournaments.”The fact that English players are in high demand in an auction like that is fantastic for English cricket,” Buttler said. “People have sat up and taken notice of the way we’re playing and noticed we have some of the best players in the world. That probably does confirm that cricket has moved and English cricket has moved with it.”We’ve talked a lot about having a very talented group but it’s about results. Everyone has a few games under their belt and we’ve been around international cricket a while. We’ve tasted success, too, which makes a huge difference. It doesn’t mean you get complacent but it means you’ve proved yourself at international level and then you can really go on and look to be consistent. We want to win.”We don’t want to hide behind ‘we’re trying to play a brand of cricket and results don’t matter’ because we’re looking forward to the Champions Trophy and we really want to win it.”George Dobell is a senior correspondent at ESPNcricinfo. Renshaw, Starc fifties guide Australia on a turner

Scorecard and ball-by-ball details3:42

Ugra: Australia will take great satisfaction from their recovery

On a pitch so dry it resembled the surface of Mars to Shane Warne, which looked unlike any Ravi Shastri said he had seen in India, it was a fast bowler who came away with the richest haul. Umesh Yadav’s combination of pace and reverse swing fetched him four wickets as Australia managed 256 for 9 in Pune.A sizeable chunk of that total came off the blade of Matt Renshaw. The 20-year-old playing his first Test away from home made 68 off 156 balls either side of retiring ill with a stomach bug in the first session. Not many of his team-mates can match his composure or his patience. Both those attributes served him well in conditions where sharp spin and startling bounce were the norm instead of the exception.

Umesh’s top figures

  • 4/32 Umesh Yadav’s figures at end of the first day are his second-best in Tests. His only other 4-for in India was 4 for 80 against West Indies in Kolkata in 2011-12.

  • 0 Australia players younger than Matt Renshaw (20 years, 332 days) to have scored 50-plus in India. The previous youngest was Rick Darling (22 years, 154 days) in Kanpur in 1979-80.

  • 3 Number of fifties for Mitchell Starc in his last five Test innings, all at No.8. He averages 53.80 in seven innings against India with three fifties.

  • 5 Number of times Umesh has dismissed David Warner in Tests, in 10 innings – the joint most any batsman has been dismissed by the bowler. Umesh has also dismissed Shaun Marsh on five occasions.

If such was the case on the first day, imagine having to bat last, which India have to if the match goes that long. So putting up a big total in the first innings was vital after Australia won the toss and chose to bat. They might want to get closer to 300, but what they have already is nothing to scoff at, assuming the bowling does well.Mitchell Starc is a clear and present threat, especially with the expectation of variable bounce. He smashed 57 not out off 58 balls himself to make sure when he gets the ball in hand, he has enough of a cushion to go all out. Nathan Lyon and Steve O’Keefe, too, might fancy their chances of exploiting a surface where footmarks were popping up by the 10th over of the opening day.Australia had done excellent work in the morning. Despite the alien conditions, they realised that on a strip prone to turn, the best way to survive is to not chase the ball. Protect middle stump, ensure you are behind the one that holds its line, play late and use soft hands, and when the ball deviates, it will only leave you beaten and red-faced, not red-faced and back in the hut. These virtues helped David Warner and Renshaw last 27.2 overs together. The 82 runs they made were the result of their ability to both tip and run, and thwack and stand back. Case in point was in the 25th over: R Ashwin harassed the outside edge and was smashed to the square leg boundary all in the space of minutes.Often India had to turn to their quickest bowler and Umesh was happy to oblige. His pace has worked against him in the past, making good balls stray down wrong lines and result in boundaries. Now, though, he has improved on his accuracy and by bowling wicket-to-wicket he makes sure the reverse swing he gets is always a threat.Umesh Yadav was menacing with his reverse swing•AFP

Umesh bowled Warner off the inside edge with his second ball of the match for 38 – after the batsman had been bowled off a no-ball on 20. Even as Australia tried to regroup Renshaw raced off the field, retiring ill for 36. Umesh was on a hat-trick in the final session having O’Keefe caught behind, with Wriddhiman Saha leaping several feet in the air, diving full-length to his right and snagging a one-hander for the ages, and then Lyon lbw next ball.Starc’s belligerence, however, reset the balance of the match. The slog sweep was his most profitable shot and he also took care to farm the strike. So effectively was he that Josh Hazlewood made only one run of the 51 that was put on by the tenth wicket. As well as looking for big hits, Australia were diligent in picking up singles whenever they were available and for a long time they were able to dilute the threat of India’s spinners. But, maintaining that level of performance over after over after over is the challenge of playing Test cricket in India. Making it tougher still were Ashwin and Jadeja with their remarkable accuracy. And eventually home advantage began to tell. Two wickets in two overs before tea – Jadeja pinning Peter Handscomb lbw with an arm ball and Ashwin trapping Smith at mid-on – brought India back into the contest. It was the result of a session’s worth of tight bowling enabled by clever captaincy.Virat Kohli had a midwicket and a mid-on for the offspinners against Smith and it seemed every time the batsman came down the track to hit with the turn, he found those men. With runs coming at a premium – 69 in 30 overs after lunch – Smith chose to take those fielders on and chipped the ball in the air. He couldn’t time it properly and found Kohli himself at mid-on. It was a transparent trap and the Australian captain, despite 94 balls of determined and purposeful batting, played right into it. Earlier, Kohli placing himself at leg slip proved equally profitable, as Jayant Yadav tempted Shaun Marsh to sweep at a flatter delivery, a risky ploy considering the extra bounce on offer, and was caught off the back of the bat.Not giving in to dot-ball pressure is hard work in the subcontinent. Renshaw, though, fitness issues notwithstanding, was up to the challenge. When set, he even felt confident enough to charge at Jadeja and loft him for six over long-on. That’s not an easy job considering the left-arm spinner is the ideal man, because of his ability to bowl quick through the air, to exploit a pitch affording rich turn.Minor miracles have followed Australia in the past 24 hours. They managed to be in two places almost at once. They batted remarkably well early on in conditions they historically struggle to deal with. A lower-order rally was probably par for the course.

Leeds Could Replace Kristensen With £2.5k-p/w "Duracell Bunny"

Leeds United are preparing for the 2023/24 Championship season after suffering relegation from the Premier League this year, three years on from their monumental return to the top flight after 16 years away.

According to the Daily Mail, Daniel Farke is on the verge of assuming the role of manager at Elland Road, and given his pedigree in England's second tier – winning promotion on two occasions with Norwich City – there are few available bosses better placed to orchestrate a return to prominence.

While United are starting to commence transfer plans following a slow start to the window, it might be wise for Farke to utilise the club's prestigious youth academy and manage the squad's finances aptly.

This shifts attention to Cody Drameh. The rising star completed a successful loan spell last season with Luton Town, who earned promotion to the Premier League for the first time in the side's history, and the 21-year-old could now repeat the feat with his parent club.

How good is Cody Drameh?

Given Leeds' woeful defensive fortunes last term, the crux of their demise, it is hardly likely that Farke will be contented with his current options.

But Drameh now stands in stellar stead to cement a starting berth, with his average 7.09 Sofascore rating in the league last term evidence that he can thrive and provide a different dynamic to the right flank.

Indeed, the marauding ace made 16 appearances after joining the Hatters on a six-month loan in January, registering two assists, averaging 1.6 key passes per game, and 3.1 tackles and 2.6 clearances per outing.

cody-drameh-leeds-united-luton-loan-academy-luke-ayling

Hailed as a "Duracell bunny" by former Cardiff City boss Steve Morison during his previous loan stint in Wales, the £2.5k-per-week gem's multi-faceted prowess is evidenced through FBref, where he ranks among the top 5% of full-backs for shot-creating actions across the Men's Next 8 divisions – the top leagues below the established European 'big five' – as well as the top 12% for successful take-ons, the top 3% for tackles and the top 1% for blocks per 90.

Given that Luke Ayling has been branded an "idiot" by Jamie Carragher and mustered only a lowly 6.60 Sofascore rating after conceding 78 times in the Premier League – a divisional high tally – the 31-year-old is surely not the answer.

And with Rasmus Kristensen closing in on a move to Serie A side Roma, Drameh could well find the right-back position is his own under Farke's wing.

Kristensen arrived from RB Salzburg one year ago for around £10m and impressed as the campaign drew into the latter stages, scoring three goals after Christmas and establishing a prominent role both on the defensive right flank and the centre.

Drameh boasts the energy and enthusiasm to impress in West Yorkshire next term, and he simply has to be provided with the opportunity to star – perhaps proving the difference as the Whites seek an instant return to the Premier League.
