Aston Villa send scouts to watch 19 y/o being tracked by nearly 30 clubs

Aston Villa sent scouts to watch a 19-year-old midfielder in action last week, according to a recent report. The Villans’ poor run of form continued over the weekend, as they were beaten 3-0 by Chelsea, making it eight games in all competitions without a win. Three defeats in their last four Premier League games have seen Unai Emery’s side fall down the table, and given their expectations, it could mean they are in for a busy January.

Unai Emery may use relationship to sign £25m midfielder for Aston Villa

Emery could have a vital advantage…

ByTom Cunningham Dec 2, 2024 Aston Villa transfer news

Emery will be keen to stop this poor run of form as soon as possible, but with the January transfer window on the horizon, he will have his eye on one or two additions to freshen up his team. One player Villa may now be interested in signing is Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth.

The left-back has been an impressive performer for the Cherries and could now be open to a move away from the club, as they value the defender at £40 million. Kerkez is not short of interest, as Manchester United, Liverpool, and Villa are all interested in securing his services. As well as looking at Kerkez, Villa have also made an enquiry over the signing of Malik Tillman from PSV Eindhoven.

The USA international has made a fantastic start to this season, and already there have been several enquiries made over a possible winter transfer. The transfer news doesn’t stop there for Villa, as club scouts have been in place to watch a young midfielder in the last week.

Villa scouts watch 19 y/o being tracked by nearly 30 clubs

According to journalist Alan Nixon, relayed by Inside Futbol, Aston Villa sent scouts to watch Reims midfielder Valentin Atangana in action. The 19-year-old has been at Reims for his entire career, playing for their under-17s, under-19s and B team before moving into the first team in July 2023.

Atangana played 15 times for the French side last season in Ligue 1, following seven appearances in the league during the 2022/23 campaign. Despite the midfielder not scoring for Reims or registering an assist, he has been catching the eye of teams across Europe with his performances.

The report states that Villa had scouts in place last week to watch Atangana, but they were not the only English club tracking the young player, as Tottenham, Brentford, Liverpool, Everton and Manchester United also had scouts in attendance at the game.

They were joined by Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund, who also had representatives present, as no fewer than 26 teams have been tracking the teenager.

Atangana is under contract at the French side until 2027, meaning as 2025 closes in, some of these teams could look to test Reims’ resolve. Signing Atangana would add another midfielder option to Emery’s team, and his youthful, energetic style could be ideal for the Premier League side as they try to get back on top.

Liverpool want to sign forward for £20m with Ligue 1 club in financial crisis

Liverpool now want to sign a “dynamo” international forward, with one Ligue 1 in a financial crisis according to reports.

Liverpool flying under slot

Since the appointment of Arne Slot as Jurgen Klopp’s successor in the summer, Liverpool have been firing on all cylinders.

The Reds are currently top of both the Premier League and Champions League, having won 16 of their 18 games in all competitions this term. They are also finding the net for fun, having scored 24 goals in just 12 top-flight games – a total bettered only by free-scoring Tottenham Hotspur.

Most recently, Slot’s men put three past bottom-placed Southampton in a hard-fought 3-2 victory at St. Mary’s. Mohamed Salah scored twice on the day, taking his total for the season to 12 in all competitions, while midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai was also on the scoresheet. Speaking to the press after the victory, Slot was full of praise for Salah.

Mohamed Salah scores for Liverpool

“We always know we can trust on him if things are difficult for us. After we went 2-1 down, I didn’t really feel that was the moment we should score in. Then out of a fantastic pass from Ryan Gravenberch though [we did]. But the timing of the run and the way Mo finished it was special and that helped us really back into the game.”

Liverpool eyeing Malick Fofana move

Despite already scoring goals aplenty, Liverpool still want to add more firepower to their forward line. According to a report from Spain, the Reds are interested in signing Lyon winger Malick Fofana, who has been one of Ligue 1 football’s breakout stars this season.

The 19-year-old, who is now a full Belgium international, has scored five goals and registered two assists in 16 games for Les Gones, and has turned heads with his energetic displays on the left wing.

Liverpool want to take advantage of Lyon’s current financial crisis and land Fofana at a cut-price ranging between £13 million and £20 million, claims the report.

Earlier this month, it was ruled that Lyon will be demoted to Ligue 2 at the end of the season if they do not improve their finances. They have also been banned from signing players in January, so to balance their books, the seven-time French champions are likely to have to sell several key players after the New Year, and Fofana could be one of them.

Fofana a "dynamo"

In an interview with DAZN earlier this month, per Foot Boom, French football reporter Walid Acherchour expressed his admiration for Fofana and his combative style of play.

“He is a player who is not just drawn to the spotlight or the ball, but he is willing to get stuck in, disrupt transitions, and has a remarkable football IQ. He combines well, accelerates, and is an energetic dynamo.”

“He is there to inject some urgency into the sometimes slow play of Olympique Lyonnais in midfield. Let’s cherish this little man, Malick Fofana, who shines brightly with his talent, and even though he has a cute little face, he is anything but soft on the pitch.”

Arsenal chiefs are reportedly still in contact to sign a £55m club captain for Mikel Arteta in 2025.

Arsenal frustrated in 0-0 draw with Everton

The Gunners were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw with Everton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, failing to take advantage of Liverpool’s draw with Fulham in the process.

Arsenal manager MikelArtetabefore the match

Arteta’s side had plenty of shots on goal but failed to break the deadlock, with the Spaniard saying after the game: “I’m very disappointed because when you do what we’ve done today against them, you have to win the game, you know. But at the end, this is football, it’s the hardest thing. Those last 20- 25 meters to do what we have to do.

“Credit to them as well, how they block shots, Jordan Pickford for the saves that he’s made, the way they defend, the desire that they defend with. But honestly, it’s difficult to ask something else to the team. Individually, can we do things a little bit better and deliver more quality and deliver the magic moment? In that case that is necessary, yes, but that’s something that is not easy.”

Arsenal will soon get the chance to bolster their squad in the January transfer market, and there have been claims that interim sporting director Jason Ayto is plotting to bring in a new forward. Arteta also said before the game with Everton that Arsenal are prepared for January and there could be “some surprises”.

“I never expect January to be super busy, but we have to wait and see where we are,” said Arteta on the prospect of winter deals at Arsenal.

“Some surprises can come, we are prepared for that, some opportunities as well, and we have to see. Hopefully the squad availability is going to be better in a few weeks so we will have to wait and see.”

Now, it looks as if Barcelona star Raphinha is a real player of interest heading into the New Year.

Arsenal in contact over move to sign Barcelona captain Raphinha

According to a new update from The Boot Room and journalist Graeme Bailey, Arsenal have told Barcelona they are still interested in signing Raphinha in 2025.

The Gunners, along with Liverpool and Manchester City, remain in contact with intermediaries over a deal for the Brazil international, who cost £55m from Leeds United in 2022.

Raphinha, now the captain of the Catalan giants, has been starring under Hansi Flick this season, scoring 17 goals and registering 10 assists in all competitions.

Ben Cutting and Daniel Vettori tackle the big questions ahead of Mumbai’s game against Rajasthan

Big pictureThe sun has set on Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2022 campaign. And there are far too many questions than answers at present.Did they spend wisely at the auction? In breaking the bank for Jofra Archer, who wasn’t going to be fit this season, did they shoot themselves in the foot? Having put the kind of exorbitant bid for Tim David, why haven’t shown faith in him? Is there a solution for Ishan Kishan’s form slump? Is his auction price – a humongous INR 15.25 crore – hampering him mentally? And then there’s an entirely different issue – the curious case of Rohit Sharma. What has happened to his form? Is Kishan’s poor form affecting his style of play at the other end? How long does he back a misfiring Kieron Pollard, a bonafide legend for the franchise.Addressing some of these questions over the next three weeks could be a good start building towards next year.Related

IPL 2022: Mumbai Indians sign Kumar Kartikeya for injured Arshad Khan

Cricket-wise, there is little that bothers the Rajasthan Royals currently. Until last week, everyone wondered how they’d fare without Jos Buttler’s contributions. Well, they did just fine, and managed to beat Royal Challengers Bangalore too, courtesy a fine hand from Riyan Parag, one they’ve backed through thick and thin. It doesn’t appear to be much of a concern that they’re regularly playing just six specialist batters. The bowling attack has looked as threatening as they come, and they’ve fired in unison to make them look strong contenders to go all the way. Maybe the trick is in giving Bumrah the extra over upfront to play on his mind? In eight meetings, Buttler, the season’s orange cap holder, has been out to him four times, while only striking at 89. After a roaring start to the season – seven wickets in four games at an economy of 7.3 – Boult is amid a form slump. He has gone wicketless in the last three games, with an economy of 10.5. Among 20 bowlers to have bowled more than seven overs between overs 15-20, Boult’s economy of 13.6 is the second worst. Could they then try to strengthen their batting a bit more by bringing in the all-round James Neesham, who can also send down a few overs? That could also mean they consider Navdeep Saini or Karun Nair over Daryl Mitchell to balance out the XI.Stats that matter Six of Prasidh’s nine wickets in IPL 2022 have been in the Powerplay. That’s more than how many he has taken in this phase in the past four seasons combined. Royals’ average of 15.7 per wicket with spin is by far the best this season. No spin attack has taken more wickets than them. Rohit Sharma has been out five times out of eight inside the powerplay, the most in a single IPL season. His streak of 16 innings and counting without an IPL fifty is also his longest ever since joining Mumbai Indians in 2011.

Per The Athletic, Arsenal boss Arteta believed there was a romantic potential to reuniting with Sterling, having coached the former England winger during his time at Manchester City. However, he has struggled for minutes, and has made just 10 starts in all competitions.

Sterling was searching for stability after also struggling for minutes at Chelsea. However, as the Gunners did not include a purchase option in the deal to sign the forward, Arteta has not been motivated to prioritise his playing time over the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

DID YOU KNOW?

Arsenal signed Sterling mainly due to the fact that he was a low-cost option, as there was no transfer fee, nor a loan fee, and the Gunners only had to pay a portion of his wages. Arteta personally pushed for the move, but he is not likely to remain in north London. Chelsea plan to move him on in the summer, although they accept his wages may prove prohibitive and whittle down the number of potential suitors who can sign him.

Ryan Higgins' missed chance helps Northants cling on after double-strike bursts game open

Ryan Higgins missed a caught-and-bowled chance in the final over as a thrilling LV=Insurance County Championship clash between Gloucestershire and Northamptonshire ended in a draw.Higgins, who had earlier made 139 as Gloucestershire set the hosts 299 to win, struck in successive balls to remove first Lewis McManus and then Gareth Berg as a nail-biting chase came down to the final over.Prior to his double strike Gloucestershire had six fielders on the boundary in the wake of an onslaught led by Rob Keogh’s 74 and Josh Cobb’s 36, but they finished with five slips in a late quest for victory. However, Higgins spilt a drive by Tom Taylor with four balls left and Northamptonshire hung on to deny the visitors on their return to Division One for the first time since 2005.Northamptonshire must also wait for their first win at this level since 2004, despite Saif Zaib’s 65 and Keogh’s heroics for the second time in the match having left them 66 off as many balls ahead of the breathless finish.Earlier, Ben Sanderson took three wickets including that of Higgins, returning 5 for 66 to set up the thrilling run chase.Gloucestershire began on 326 for 6 with centurion Higgins still at the crease, but perhaps conscious they would be a bowler light due to Naseem Shah’s shoulder injury, they showed precious little sign of wanting to press on towards a declaration.Higgins struck one early boundary but was otherwise becalmed by Sanderson who trapped the allrounder lbw for 139, before having Taylor caught behind.Zafar Gohar struck a glorious on-drive to go to 50, but Nathan Buck pinned him in front and Sanderson had Naseem caught in the deep to complete his fifer.Northamptonshire skipper Ricardo Vasconcelos got the chase off to a flyer with a couple of glorious drives and it wasn’t long before Gloucestershire turned to Gohar in search of inspiration. Bowling into the rough outside left-hander Emilio Gay’s off stump, Gohar unsettled the academy graduate.Taylor then struck on the stroke of lunch finding the edge of Vasconcelos’s bat to give James Bracey his sixth catch of the game. On the resumption, Gohar and Taylor cranked up the pressure with 36 dot balls, Gay top-edging an attempted sweep off the spinner just beyond the clutches of a fielder in a bid to break the shackles.Pressure told when Gay nicked one through to give Bracey, while Curran took 22 balls to get of the mark, making a skittish 18 before Gohar trapped him lbw.Gloucestershire couldn’t seize the moment, Keogh’s presence bringing a new calmness to Zaib as the pair regrouped before unfurling a string of boundaries immediately after tea which brought 40 runs in six overs as they began to sense an unlikely win.An eighth four took Zaib to a seventh first-class 50, but Miles Hammond interrupted the carnage somehow clinging onto a skier to end the allrounder’s innings on 65.Keogh kept up the charge hoisting Gohar over square leg for six to reach a second 50 of the match before the spinner gave him a life on 57 failing to hold on to a sharp caught and bowled opportunity. The reprieve appeared decisive as he and Cobb rattled up a 50-stand, but with victory in sight Gohar got Keogh to play too soon and chip a catch to mid-off.Cobb assumed the mantle, clubbing Gohar over long-on, only to perish trying to repeat the shot before the dramatic finale unfolded.

    WHAT DIEGO SIMEONE SAID

When asked how he and his team felt after the penalty incident, he said: "I usually always talk about Barcelona. This time, the situation warrants an explanation of my feelings. It's anger, rage, injustice… but from my position, the only thing I have the power to do is work so the team can continue competing as it does. We understand our fans, and obviously the feeling that all of us at Atlético have is anger, rage, and injustice."

The incident caused such a stir that UEFA said it will start talks with FIFA and IFAB to determine if this rule should be "reviewed in cases where a double touch is clearly unintentional". While they are out of the Champions League, they are still fighting for the league title and the Copa del Rey so there is plenty to play for this season.

Scarpa voltou ao time, voltou a escalação do Mundial, e o time fez um primeiro tempo perfeito. Danilo, o carregador de piano do time.

Ah e a Libertadores?
